Hi, I am a new member can u ladies help me out?
* Early 20's, sudden crazy break out!
* ONLY around my mouth area, upper lip and chin.
* Acne- Big,red, painful, believe to be inflammatory type acne w/so much scarring :'(
Here is current products that I am using:
A.M.:
1.RX cleanser main ingredient 2% saliyclic acid + 2% Glycolic acid; however, I don't think I like saliyclic acid
2. Toner-clarin's Aloe (green color)
3. Biotherm- Source Therapie
4. targeting t-zone - la roche posay,effaclar K
5. lotion- (not very satisfied)hope in a jar (philosophy, original)
(used to use kiehl's lycopene facial moisturizing lotion which was a bit oily for my skin.)
6. Sun block- la roche posay spf 50
P.M. is same with out sun-block
(I sometimes use dermalogica's microfoliant)
PLEASE recommend some product for T-zone Acne and scarring face as well as good cleanser, toner and moisturizer for my skin type with my skin problems. My skin is NOT OILY but I still break out around t-zone (especially around my lips) It's really sad to look at my face through the mirror. The scarring makes me look like I have a mustash :'(
Oh, I am open to any suggestions to improve my routine |

Sounds like hormonal acne to me. I use Proactiv repairing lotion on my t-zone-- it's the only thing that I trust to keep pimples away. I also love Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask as a spot treatment-- it really dries blemishes up and draws it out, even on the BIG guys!
Good Luck! |

Hi, I'm new too so I'm no expert haha. Have you been using any new products lately? Or perhaps sleeping much later than you used to or been under more stress? I find the above 2 reasons to be the ones that cause my face to break out suddenly.
For the acne/blemishes, perhaps you can try natural Aloe Vera Gel? I find it works and it does not lead to clogging of pores. Plus it has no stinging effect or lead to chemical irritations as it is a natural product.
For skincare, sorry don't think i can help you with that as i'm still looking also but i've heard murad's kit for acne/blemishes is good? Perhaps you can search for Murad reviews here
Hope your skin problems disappear soon! Cheer up! Keeping your spirits/mood high will help too |

A couple of questions, tomato-berry...
Do you use any lip treatments, lip balms, glosses or lipsticks? If you are, perhaps there is an ingredient that is causing the acne around your mouth.
Do you have a habit of resting your chin on your hands or touching your lips and chin a lot? That can also cause the type of problem that you described. I know for myself, that I tend to rest my chin in my hand when I am reading for a long time at the computer. When I catch myself doing it, I stop immediately because if I don't, I end up with clogged pores all along my lower lip. |

dear tomato berry,
i had a similar problem a few months ago... i found rosewood and rose-based products and a hands-off, simplistic approach to work wonders. we are often tempted to overtreat our skin when we break out, and it really sounds to me like you are layering on too many products. also, the strong acids you are using and all of the many ingredients in the products you are layering on your skin are probably exacerbating your reactions... what worked for me was a mineral water mister (evian, avene, vichy), a tiny bottle of rose otto, and a very mild cleanser (i used sanoflore's rosewater/rosewood cleanser).
many people here have had amazing success with the oil cleansing method, or ocm, but it sounds like you need to calm your skin down first and then decide on a simpler regimen, perhaps one that does not aggravate your condition. also, i highly recommend osea's corrective oil for blemishes (www.oseaskin.com), which has major antiseptic essential oils and healing plant oils, so you will not suffer from red marks and scars, and the spots will go away very fast. there are other versions of this oil that are perhaps less expensive--but i highly recommend something of its kind to spot treat.
there is a wealth of information on this forum for you to consult--ask anyone specific questions and your skin will only improve from the suggestions!

sorry, i should have been more specific about brands...
recently, acne-prone, combination skin users have been impressed by epidermix II (do a search and you will find lots of reviews), which seems to help keep pimples at bay AND give the skin a nice glow.
to me it really sounds like you've encouraged scarring by using too much acids, which clears pimples up faster, but leaves marks as well, so i would not use them twice a day if i were you. i would switch to a spot treatment oil, such as the osea one i recommended above. it is going to take some time to get rid of the pigmentation issues you were referring to, but you need to nourish your skin now, find a balance, and gently turn your old skin over to reveal newer skin--rather than keep it in a constant state of distress.
re: cleansers, i find osea's cleansers to be the best around--they are very active, chock full of excellent high quality ingredients, and are extremely refreshing. the cleansing mud in the small size and the cleansing milk would most likely be ideal for you.
as far as toners go, PSF skincare has a lovely calming toner called the R&R toner. PSF also has some other acne/combo skin products, such as papaya enzyme cleanser. it is an excellent and well-priced line. the pumpkin peel by PSF is a wonderful glycolic mask that will encourage cell turnover and inhibit breakouts--use it once per week. Juice Beauty green apple peel is another alternative to the pumpkin peel as a treatment. generally you want to follow up these treatment masks with a moisturizing mask as well--psf moisture mask and osea's white algae mask are favorites here.
Lastly, i'd highly recommend living nature's products, which are simple and all natural, built around difficult-to-treat acneic and eczema-prone skin. they have a nourishing flax gel product, which balances and hydrates and protects the skin, without being too much like a moisturizer.
here are some reputable websites:
epidermx (i don't know it, but you can search for it)
www.oseaskin.com
www.livingnature.com
www.psfskincare.com
I hope that helps, and keep us current!

sorry for all the multiple posts... the osea 'copy' is by ifeelpretty, and can be found atwww.ifeelprettyproducts.com.
plus, it has rosewood oil in it, which i really endorse for freaked out skin. i'd give it a whirl!
thanks, poohlisey, for posting the epidermix review thread!

ETA: in fact, i looked at the i feel pretty products, and i think her cleansers, toners, and serums would be excellent for you--they are really intelligently and elegantly formulated. and well-priced--you cannot go wrong! they would offer you the best simplifying/healing regime for your skin right now. |

Breakouts around the mouth are almost always food or product related. It's the only way your skin has to communitcate to you "STOP. IT. NOW."
Common problem causes: citrus, coffee, soft drinks, sugar and fake sugar, spicy foods, chocolate, cheese. And, frankly, could be just about anthing else.
If you have ANY new lip gloss or balm or stick, lay off it. As well as any lip moisturizer that might be the culprit.
And, a very common problem -- your toothpaste.
I can't use toothpaste -- every single one breaks me out, around my mouth. Brush your teeth without toothpaste for a week. See if that helps.
Don't go buying new products yet. The problem is very likely a systemic irritation from a product or food. Channel Nancy Drew and figure out what it is. Acne is your skin communicating with you. Listen to it. |

That's really interesting. Maybe that's why I usually breakout around my mouth area.. Thanks for the info. |

Have you tried salicylic acid? That helps and DDF Sulfur Mask helped me too with my break outs. |

I didn't know that food was often a trigger for acne around the mouth... thanks for sharing.

thank you everyone...
I believe it's hormonal reaction.. or perhaps the funky weather these days. However, few days b4 I started to have sudden break-outs, I was using kinerase lotion (for oily skin)
Although I use eye make-up but I hardly use make-up such as base, foundation, and I never wear lipstick at all.
Yes, I have already tried salicylic acid from Keihl's and DDF Sulfur Mask I don't think my skin likes salicylic acid, I'm more on benzoyl peroxide
And Yes, I have already tried popular acne treaments such as Pro-active and Murad (which has salicylic acid : both didn't work, especially Murad which made my skin worse. <-- but this was teenage year.
While I was going through this break-outs, I purchased "Zeno" a.k.a Ance zapper~ that didn't work... so I returned it.
I'm just using my regular acne medication from my dr. I'm not satisfied cuz the process is slow, plus the medicine is expensive. She recommends"contraceptive" but I do not want to take pills* for Ance... (cuz it's only my t-zone... not all over my face. )
Finally, gals~
What's good product for scarring? I know...
if I want the fast result, laser treament is the way to do, but my acne comes back anyway.
Product that dimishes nasty ance scar~
ANY Acne is horrible... but I really really hate to have my acnes around my upper lip!
need more help~ thanx galz |
