Hi -
You might want to look at this study I posted a while back. It shows little difference between .025 and .1% retin-A. I would imagine the difference between .05 and 1% is even less. Basically same results with .025% and less irritation.

There are no products containing 5% tretinoin (the active ingredient in Retin-A). There aren't even any over-the-counter retinoids that contain 5% retinol.
Are you sure you don't mean 0.5%? |

I missed a 0 in my response... it's 0.05% (and 0.05% is weaker than 0.1%, which is the strongest). |

There was a study done on 0.25% tretinoin that resulted in measureable improvements in a shorter period of time. It mentioned that the treatment was tolerable, but does not go into detail about irritation or side effects.
Here is the study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15171763
N.B. This percentage of tretinoin is not (yet) available to the general public. |

Or even 0.05? 0.1% is the highest strength available to buy. It doesn't sound a lot but with tretinoin, a little goes a long way! |

I started with the lowest %, then used 0.05% and my skin kept breaking up and I didn't see much difference in texture and appearance, then when I used up all .05% gel (which looked more like a white cream), I started the tube of 0.1% gel (looks like clear transparent gel) and I was AMAZED!!! the breakouts stopped almost immediately, then the texture of the skin appeared so smooth and even in color like "I have NEVER had before and thought it is only possible with photoshop", but here I was looking in the mirror in different lights and it was all so perfect. I used the gel till it was all gone and now one and a half month later since the regular use stopped, it is still very good, but there is no perfect glow anymore, I have re-ordered the gel and now I am looking forward to the supply to come ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

oh, I wanted to note that while using Retin A regularly, there are some periods of time (couple of days) when skin appears dry or drier or dull, it is the time when the product is "working" meaning removing the dead layer of the skin. To expedite the process, I also used some gentle manual exfoliation during such days while cleaning the face and neck in the evening and morning and a good moisturizing agent (like emu oil or avocado oil - which I always use anyway). I also used a 20% Vitamin C serum (as with RetinA I came up to 20% gradually) in the morning (and Retin A at night of course) and a physical sunscreen to protect the skin during the day. So it was:
Retin A + avocado oil (evening) + Vitamin C and av oil if needed + Osmosis sunscreen (in the morning) and Ferro Mineral Powder as foundation
this formula works well for me |
