I just joined a few days ago and can't believe how much amazing information is available on these boards. However, the more I read, the more I wonder about my routine.
First, I use Kanebo Deep Cleansing Oil to wash my face in the evening. I started using this so I could remove makeup and wash with one product. Does this sound like a good idea?
I also use MD Formulations Daily Peel Pads about 3 times a week to help with the black heads on my nose and chin. I rub the pad all over my face -- maybe I shouldn't use on my cheeks and forehead since my skin has seemed a bit flaky recently (see below)? Any other suggestions for blackheads in these areas?
For moisturizer, I started using Dremu emu oil about 5 days ago. I had read about it a while ago and then saw positive reviews on EDS. I haven't noticed any difference yet and my skin actually seems a slight bit drier and slightly flaky on my cheeks and forehead (although it has been very cold the past few days). Can anyone let me know how long I should wait until I see results?
Finally, I was using Cellex-C serum every morning. Then I read on one thread that Vitamin C serum can cause pro-oxidents? Is there anyplace I could get more information on this? The product actually seemed to be good for my skin.
Thanks in advance for your tips. |

Hi VMP40 and welcome
I can only answer a couple of your queries.
Really emu should work immediately. I'm surprised you're getting flaky skin. The only time that happened to me was putting it straight over mandelic acid - emu seemed to make it penetrate much more deeply. Could be you're using emu directly after your peel pads and the acid from that's penetrating more strongly.
Cellex-c's a good serum. Why are you worried about pro-oxidants? It's only once it's turned colour - gone yellowy you shouldn't use it.

Thanks Molly,
I did, in fact, put the emu oil on about 2 minutes after I used the peel pads, and my skin did feel like it was stinging. I didn't realize that the oil would make the acid penetrate more.
How long should I wait? |

Supposedly your face returns to its normal acidity level after 30 mins max so try 20 mins.
I don't know hhow strong the pads are, but wouldn't it be better to use that at night. I prefer not to use acids daytime myself in the sun, but some do. |

The cleansing oil sounds like a good step as do the MDF peel pads. They can be drying so perhaps drop down to 2 times a week if the dryness has started around the time you started using these. There are many other products you can use that have salicylic acid in them to help with cleaning out the pores. Dermalogica makes a good one - Medicated Clearing Lotion - that is probably one of the least drying I have found. In all honesty though, the *most* effective product for me in terms of blackheads is Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream. Sure, it's a bit of effort but two weeks of use of this and all the pores go into stealth mode!
Re, Cellex-C serum - it is a good serum. I used the 17.5% and was very happy with the results. I think the discussion that you're referring to was not only targeted at Cellex-C but all oxidised C serums. I still use my serums when they yellow a bit but wouldn't use anything at the orange/brown stage anymore. HTH |

Some people find they have to follow their cleansing oil with another cleanser but I don't. I've had no problems just doing a single cleanse to remove makeup and sunscreen in the PM

A very gentle BHA I like, and is very popular on MUA is Paula's Choice 2% BHA LIQUID.

You might be over exfoliating like I was - the emu couldn't help me there too. Are you doing any other form of exfoliation besides the peel pads? |
