So I just recently started taking a lot of vitamins for about one week. I was wondering if the vitamins could cause ur skin to purge? Some whiteheads inflamed on my cheeks and I'm feeling depressed! I don't know if the vitamins are a cause?
I'm currently taking
GNC Hair Skin & Nails Program
Flax Seed Oil 1000mg
Alpha Lipoic Acid 1200mg
Spirulina 500mg
Milk Thistle 200mg
Zinc 30mg
Thanks guys. I dont want to stop taking these vitamins. I'm going to wait it out but it's extremely hard! Hopefully it will get better. I just hate the red marks that acne leaves. |

Just a guess but, Milk Thistle detoxifies your liver, usually when your liver is being cleansed (or when its sluggish) it will show up on your skin in the form of acne, excema, etc. If that is the case it should pass in a few weeks. |

Another possibility is the Spirulina. I had mild flushing and some tiny rash-like bumps that went away when I quit taking it and skin reactions are a listed side-effect.
Just a thought.

I think the best way is taking some advice from your docter. |

Did you start all these new vitamins all at once? I heard from my doctor that it'd be better to start a new vitamin for about 2 weeks to make sure you won't have a reaction to it before you start another one. That's because if you take a bunch of new ones, you wouldn't know which one was causing a problem for you. |

some medication needs to be consumed certain times, such as after meal, empty stomach, etc.
Those are quite a lot of vitamine in a day.
You really need your doctor to sort the times and amount to consume each days. |

I just have to say, being a longtime vitamin taker & having lived all over the country, I have YET to run into an MD that knows anything about vitamins, much less dosages, times to take them, etc. The most I've heard is "I guess it wouldn't hurt anything."
If you go into a good health food store (generally not a chain/franchise, although I've run into good people there too), they'll be able to tell you much more about that sort of thing. Of course, they may also end up scaring you about prescription meds. I personally believe both vitamins and meds have their places... |

Catmcall, thank you for this post! I agree 100% with everything you said, as I have had the exact experience with MDs not knowing anything about vitamins and giving me the "Can't hurt!" line as well. Glad I'm not the only one!
I have talked to some folks in the local health food store when I have questions about supplements (and I take a lot of 'em!)...and they were quite helpful. But at the end of the day, I've found that doing my own homework on what vitamins, etc. I'm taking is best for me. I, too believe that vitamins and prescription meds each have their place, and everyone has to decide for themselves what is best for their particular health needs.

Thanks guys. I'm not taking any meds. Just taking those vitamins. I think I'm just stressed out with school this week and my hormones may be acting up. Maybe the milk thistle has something to do with it. It's only two big bumps but my skin scars easily so I'm paranoid. Hehe Thanks again!! |

I posted the same question in the past. I started to take a multi-vitamin a few years back and experienced a huge breakout so I stopped taking it. About a year ago, I decided to start taking Zinc and B50 to help with inflammation and the very next day, I got this HUGE cyst on my back--and I NEVER got zits on my back. Because I was worried the acne would start showing up on my face, I quit taking that as well.
Most of the people that did reply to my concern said that they never experienced purging with vitamins. I wonder if the toxity of one's body has anything to do with it? Perhaps my body is seriously lacking something to cause this type of a reaction.
Anyways, you are not alone. I experienced the same thing and now I'm scared to try any type of vitamin. |

I'm going to agree here. You have to make sure you are taking vitamins at the right time and if there are any precautions when using vitamins with perscribed medicine. |
