I would greatly appreciate recommendations for a good hairdresser in NYC or Northern NJ area.
I have wavy shoulder length hair, and so far am unable to find someone who can consistently give me a good cut.
TIA,
Lucy. |

i absolutely love salon ishi in midtown. the space is great - totally unpretentious (which can be hard to find in ny ) and just gives consistently good cuts. i had bounced around from one person to another b/c i was always unsatisfied, and it got to the point where i was sick of paying $100 for eh hair so i actually just went to the freebie training cut night at ishi and had the best cut of my life with one of their trainees (plus the head stylist). so, when i was ready for my next cut, i asked who they would recommend for my wavy (but thin) hair, and they gave me a stylist named victor as well as the head stylist from the training night. since victor was a bit cheaper (he's now about $90) i figured i might as well try him first, and i've been faithful ever since (going on 3 years now). hth! |

oh, also, i knew i like ishi b/c when i was thinking about doing the whole japanese straightening thing i had a consult with ishi himself. after looking at my hair, face, etc. he told me not to do it, just to get a good cut and better hair products instead. given that straightening would have cost $700 easy, i thought that was a pretty good sign for the salon in general . . . |
