Hi

I started the gross Atkins diet 5 days ago, only eating protein and it shows! I feel awful, really lethargic, my skin looks spotty and dull and to top it off I've now got another cold, the second so far this year!

I'm only doing the diet for 20 days, I just need a quick fix and it's working, I have lost 5 pounds so far, but I look and feel awful!

Can anyone recommend something I can take to pick me up? Crack or vodka maybe? Wink

Also has anyone got any tips, recipes or ideas for sweet things I can have? I am completely sick of eggs, bacon, salmon and chicken! I want chocolate, but I mustn't!

Please help, feeling really p*ssed off!

TIA

Sarah

Sarah,

The Atkins Diet (or any other strict diet) cannot be used when you are unwell. You need to stop now until you get over your cold.

I lost 43 lbs. in 3 months on the diet and I can tell you that the first week or so makes one feel the same as when quitting smoking--truly lousy.

Please stop until you are better. Then, when you begin again, take a mega multi-vitamin with substantial amounts of B-vitamins. Dr. A's original diet called for adding L-Arginine and Lecithin, as well.

Get well soon.

Ari

p.s. And, yes you can have chocolate on the diet but only once a week. Also, sugar-free pudding & sugar-free jello with lots of real whipped cream (not Cool Whip) take care of the ol' sweet tooth.

I would get off that Atkins Diet thing asap. Probably one of the worst things to do to your body. Invest $16 at amazon and buy "the China Study" by Campbell

I have read numerous books on diet/health and found this one to be the most scientific one.

Hi:
Your body may be low on potassium, especially if you are not eating carbs at all and drinking lots of water. The water will wash away the potassium and the foods that have the highest levels of potasium are also high in carbs, for example potatoes and bananas. It may help you to feel better if you take a pottasium sustitute. Also as another member pointed out a vitamin B6 or B complex may make you feel better.

Sarah, if you're feeling under the weather I would forget all about the diet for the time being. Get better, and then start again. I've never done Atkins, but I did do the South Beach diet for a while and it's actually quite balanced and you don't need to supplement excessively. I've fallen off the wagon now Embarassed - I'm such a pasta-holic - but would still recommend it.

you feel crappy because you're detoxing. Just like if you had to get off alcohol or cigarettes, physical * spam alert * to chemicals in food and sugar and sometimes even wheat based products can make anyone feel lousy....
