Hi ladies, I wanted to share my nail oil recipe I've been using for the last month with great results!
A little background - since I paint [watercolors] and like to use my fingers to smudge pastels on the surface, I keep my nails relatively short and unpolished. I buff them thoroughly on a weekly basis and follow up with the shine portion of the buffer every 2-3 days.
As a result, my nails are healthy and pink with the half moon but I've always had to battle dry cuticles. I've tried Nailtiques nail oil, solar nail oil, straight vitamin E oil - Nailtiques seems to work the best, but since I have all these lovely ingredients to be used in my hair, I figured I could come up with something for the nails as well.
Cleaned up and soaked my last bottle of Nailtiques in hot water, then filled it with the following.
3 parts squalane
2 parts avocado oil
1/2 dropper neem oil
Enough drops of lavendar and rosemary to cover up the harsh smell of neem oil, about 20 drops. Shake it all up and brush on nails, cuticles, beneath nails. Massage, then distribute any remaining oil on your hands. Follow up with a good hand cream [I like shea butter]
Now if only I could find a way to make this more portable, similar to Sephora's cuticle treatment pen! If I come up with something, I'll be sure to update this post.

Update - seems like my nail oil is losing its effectiveness, cuticles seem to be drying out grrr....
I wonder if all those rosemary drops I put in it to kill the stench of neem oil is the cause?
Think I'll make another fresh batch without the neem oil and essential oils and see if just avocado and squalane do the trick. Off to the lab! |
