My eyes are feeling so dry and they're often red. I feel like there's some sharp object poking at them, more so on the right side than the left. This must be what a cracked glass feels like. LOL

Any recommendation for eye drops?

I am currently using RL at night. I stopped the SAS KGF in the morning just this morning to see if that would help. I tried to put on very little RL now.

I also need to try to get a better sleep.

But it seems some sort of OTC eye drops could help moisturize my eyes in the mean time.

What have you all tried? No Visine please! I do have it, but my eye doctor said it's really bad for your eyes.

I have Tears Naturale, too. But if something else works better, I want to pick it up today.

similasan 'dry eye' eye drops are the best. expensive, but worth it and you can put them in your eyes however many times per day you like.

BUT be careful and make sure you allow the revitalash to dry completely before using eye drops! you don;t want it to leach into the mucous membranes of your eyes, ESPECIALLY if the glaucoma medicine rumors are true.

In fact, bkk, you might want to stop RV all together if it is making your eyes hurt... just a thought.

A contact lens brand called Refresh makes a super thick eyedrop (look for the one that says severe dry eye)...about $8

I haven't heard of Similasan, but have seen Refresh. I'm off to Target to see what they got. I was putting so much Tears Naturale in my eyes (yup, I waited two hours after RL, and yeah, if this doesn't get any better, I'll stop RL Sad -- CAREKATE - PLEASE HELP! I NEED YOUR LUSH LASH SERUM BEFORE I GO BLIND.), and today, my eyes are still red but not feeling like cracked glass so much, and the sensation of something poking them has lessened. Still quite uncomfortable. So maybe some thicker eye drops would do me a whole lot of good.

You may want to take hyaluronic acid internally. I'm taking Nature's Way Hydraplenish and it is helping me with my itchy eyes.

See this long thread for more info:

Have someone check that you fully close your eyes while sleeping. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes my eyes (I'm told) are open just the slightest bit. The day after I do this, my eyes are very sore. Also, with all the talk about the JM & RL , be very careful because the side effects may be very dangerous!

similasan is really really nice. I can't thank avalange enough for recommending it. It's better than anything I've tried (various OTC and prescription red eye drops, artificial tears etc)

I would also look into sustane, for me it is a nice natural tear-like quality but its thick enough that it doesn't dribble down your cheeck ruining your mascara and you can use it as often as you want. It is a bit pricey but worth it and you can find it in drugstores. Oh I think its only for contact lenses fyi but my eye doctor recommended it.

I find it at my local Walgreens. The health shops also have it and I *think* that GNC or the Vitamine Shoppe has it too. It's on the same shelf as the other eye drops.

You really should go see a eye dr., dry eyes can mean quiet a few things, my sister suffers horribly from this due to what they say is "no bells", I suffered from this due to a thyroid problem (mine went away), so it really is not something to just ignore, but at nite before you go to bed, lacralube (sp) is very good for this, you can get it at any drugstore, its not cheap at about 12 bucks for a teeny tube but you only use a small amount. I'd also discontinue any lash products at all untill you see a dr. Good luck and let us know.

Well you need alot more than natural tears, you need a lubricant, the tears are good for here and there, but the lubricant is what undries them, the tear products (with dry eyes) can create a cycle type effect, trust me I know!! Please get to an eye dr, we should all be looked at every year anyway.

DH does not wear contacts, but has allergies. He has found that Refresh Tears works very well for him when his eyes get dry. Since I wear contacts, I stick to the rewetting drops for contacts.

I know when I sleep, my eyes aren't always closed all the way. Lately I haven't been sleeping too well either. I don't wear contacts, so Refresh sounds like a good one to try and lubricate my eyes. I'll look at Similasan, too. I remember last year when I had my vision check-up, the doctor recommended Refresh. I wonder if RL just aggravated the situation further, and I remember poking my right eyeball while applying RL once last week. I was even wondering if something bad would come out of that accident.

bbk have you been checked for thyroid, the eyes not shutting (will def cause dry eyes) and is a huge prob with graves thyroid. Please ask your dr. about this, its a simple blood test. And if your eyes do not shut when sleeping, please use a lacralube type product during sleep, it coats the eyes and helps with the eyes not closing issue...How in the world do I know this, I lived thru it, simple eye drops will not help 6-8 hours of air hitting your eyeballs unimpeeded.

I've used Refresh and Thera tears. I like the Thera tears better. My optometrist also recommended me using fish oils that'll help too.

I also suffer from dry eyes. I've even had my tear ducts cauterized closed. I'm wearing my glasses 70 % of the time now, instead of my contacts. The worst is when I wake up. I walk with my sandpaper eyes closed all the way to the bathroom where I splash water on my face for instant relief. I have noticed that they are even dryer since using the Revitalash. Am I stopping the RL?? Hell no! Not talking

What is "lacralube"? Sorry I forgot to ask this before. Thank you!

bkkgirl, I don't remember how much the similisan costs. It's not very expensive. I've been prescribed restasis before and I prefer Similasan to it by a thousand times. Howeer, we're all different. Good luck.

Hi bkkgirl!

I too have some problems with dry eye. I saw where someone recommended Similasan eye drops and those are also my favorite! I use the ones for allergy eyes.

The preservative free drops that come in the individual tubes are also very good -- Refresh and Theratears are the ones I always look for (and also mentioned by someone else).

Either fish or flaxseed oil with omega 3's is also good for dry eye (and for your heart, hair and skin, too!). My understanding is that while it doesn't improve the quantity of tears, it can improve the tear quality. (Of course, you don't put it in your eye -- you either take it as a pill or by spoonfuls as a liquid. I keep a bottle of flaxseed oil in my refrigerator ... now, if I could only just remember to take it!)

If you don't get any relief, your opthamologist can actually put little plugs (punctual plugs) in your tear ducts to help keep your eyes better moisturized (this sounds like it is painful, but I've been told that it isn't).

I hope your eyes feel better soon!

Thank you, Cat, and Cathy. I get it worse at work, and I wonder if I'm allergic to working. LOL

My eyes do get really red at work, but when I get home, the redness would subside. The dry feeling doesn't always go away, but that could be b/c I am on the PC too much.

I need to try to drink more water, take more fish oil, sleep more (hard with the new puppy), and try to sleep with my eyes closed more. Also I need to buy the eye drops that will lubricate my eyes well. I could see that the tears naturale helped a bit, so the eye drop that is thicker will do a better job.

Apart from using eyedrops, get a gel eye mask (akin to those hot/cold packs where you can heat or freeze) and put the eye mask into a bowl of hot water for a few mins and then place the warmed-up eye mask on your eyes. Do check to make sure the mask is not too hot before putting it on as it might hurt the skin round the eyes. But i find this method very useful as heat relaxes strained muscles/nerves Smile
