Hi

I'm hoping someone can give me some skincare advice.

My skin seems badly dehydrated, it is so dull and never has any kind of glow. Probably because it's dehydrated, it's producing too much oil, so it is also congested. My pores are always blocked. I have a lot of blackheads, not really the large ones that you can remove, but they're always there and I have tons more than I did even when I was a teenager. It has now spread even to my cheeks which now have open pores Sad

I've always felt torn between using deep cleansing products to clean out my pores, and moisturising ones. Now I've eventually sussed out my skin type I know that I need something to hydrate my skin but which also doesn't clog my pores.

I've been searching for some products but they mostly fall into the dry or oily categories.

Does anyone know the best way to hydrate my skin. I've started drinking lots of water, as I know that should help, but would also like to find a product for my specific skin type.

If anyone else has this problem, I'd be glad to hear what you use, if anything has helped etc.

Don't know if I can be of much help. My skin is dry. However drinking water sounds like a good thing. Oh I heard that seakelp bioferment is fantastic for oily skin to keep it hydrated. You can buy this at skinactives.com. I bought lots of things from them including the seakelp. I can tell it's really hydrating as my hand was really dry almost cracked, and I put the seakelp on it, and it soaked it right up.

Hi Maz, I think my skin is about the same as your's. My skin tends to be oily on the surface and very dehydrated underneath because I don't drink water much Confused I can only suggest using a good normal/all skin types or combi-skin cleanser - one that effectively really cleanses the skin without drying out the skin. Try not to use a specific targeting oily skin cleanser as I find that it tends to dry out my skin even more and well people have said that the skin produces oil actually to keep the moisture levels of the skin so by drying out the skin technically you get oiler skin later on in the day Sad

I generally use a normal/all skin type toner as well and it's the moisturizer that I pay more attention to. I'll go for a moisturizer that is hydrating yet has oil controlling/matt properties Smile Hope this helps!

Do you use a regular exfoliator? This might be the reason why your skin looks dull. Some really gentle daily exfoliators can help a lot. Clean out the pores and the white heads. If your skin is on the dry side I would recommend Jurlique Face Wash Cream than Dr. HCC but both are equally good.

Is your skin sensitive to actives? IS Clinical Active Serum can help with exfoliation and acne.

Using a product that contain HA is also a good idea but drinking enough water is the most important thing Wink

I drink lots of water, usually over 2 litres a day. Still have the dryest skin imaginable! In addition, after months of over exfoliation, my face was a dry mess. Yet I had breakouts and clogged pores. I've cut back my exfoliation to once a week, and have started a more gentle skin care routine - Dr. H. Still unsure if Dr. H. products are the right ones for me, but my skin is a lot more normal these days. Less flaking and some days even looks great.

Changing your routine should be a start, but go slow so you can observe what is happening to your skin as you change products or routines. That way you will be able to dispose of some products while adding others more beneficial. I don't know about you, but I never thought I'd have to spend to much effort at finding out what works for me.

I just got Epidermxll and it's working wonders on exfoliating my dead skin. ISC Active Serum alone gives me a lot of flakes. Also, camellia oil is my HG on hydrating my skin.

I have similar skin to yours, and I am using Dermalogica. They have an oil-free hydrating mask that provides hydration, without any oil to clog pores.HTH

you should drink some water, eat fruit and vegetable and try to use PSF HA Serum. (http://www.essentialdayspa.com/psf-hydrate-protect-m_415_429.htm)
I use it also. I can feel my skin is quite better. Some little fine line eyes were reduce.
I suppose, it can help you. Wink

I agree with using HA serum. That's a great product for oily skin.

I have the same problem, flakes on some areas of my skin but overall pretty oily. My face gets shiny very very fast. Actually the shiniess/oiliness doesn't really bother me that much (I just have to blot/powder regularly), but I have been on a quest to get rid of the flakes. So far, EpidermxII has been absolutely fantastic. It doesn't get rid of flakes immediately, but I do see an imporvement.

I think I might have some of this problem too - even faithful use of Active serum isn't helping the congestion round my nose and chin area right now. It's so hard to find a product which adds moisture where it's needed without blocking pores Sad.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I lost internet access for a while, so this is the first chance I've had to read them.

I haven't tried HA yet, but that PSF serum looks like a good product. Does the site ship to UK?

I've tried some of the other products that have been recommended, DHCC, didn't really notice any difference with that. Used the Dermalogica products mentioned too. I quite like the Dermal Clay Cleanser, but still no miracles with it! lol

I like Epidermx, my skin feels quite clean when I use that. Still have blocked pores though, it's like nothing will get rid of them, there's so many now. Even though they're not too noticeable to other people, when I look at my skin close up there's tons of them, it just feels like they'll always be there and nothing
will shift them. I think I also need to be careful with Epidermx as recently I've started to get more thread veins around my nose and on my cheeks. I'm not sure exactly why I've suddenly got more of these, but I'm careful not to exfoliate these areas as maybe it will make it worse?

Even before when I did drink loads of water every day, I didn't notice any effect on my skin, it was still dull! But will hopefully be able to get the HA serum and give that a try. Also ordered a Korres Yogurt Moisturiser which was one of the few products that I found on the net for oily/dehydrated skin, so hopefully it might make a difference.

I've also been wanting to try the OCM. I know this is supposed to be really good for oily skin, would it be ok for oily and dehydrated skin? Anyone know which oils I should use?
