I just started using cleansing oils a few months ago and they have become one of my must have items. I have tried the Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil and am currently using the Kanebo Cleansing Oil. I like them both but of course I "need" to try at least several more to determine which one I like best!
So which cleansing oils have you used, what do you think of them and which one would you say is your favorite? |

I have only used DHC deep cleansing oil as far as using oils goes. I was really skeptical at first, but a friend gave me some of hers to try, and now I'm hooked. Here are the ingredients:
olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, tocopherol, phenoxyethanol, propylparaben, stearyl glycyrrhetinate, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil
I love it for taking off makeup-- it makes my skin feel so clean, and leaves it very soft and rosey looking. I just reordered some! You can try it for $11 (a small bottle) or you can go to the website and request a catalog which will include samples of their most popular products, including deep cleansing oil. |

I have tried DHC and also Shu Uemura CLEANSING BEAUTY OIL PREMIUM A/O.
DHC smelled gross and I just did not like it. Shu Uemura was too "thin" and was messy to use and .. well, sorry to say, it broke me out (not surprizing since one ingredient is that myristate thingy that clogs pores)
But I am BABOR!! Their 2-step cleansing oil is wonderful, just wonderful. I have the Hy-ol and massage that on dry skin, then you apply the phytoactive and massage over the oil (I have the Reactivating) and then you emulsify with a bit of water and just wash off. I also use one of my Eve Lom muslin cloths when removing all cleansing oils.
Bonus on the babor is it is much cheaper than Shu too! |

I guess I don't notice the smell! Actually, I hardly detect any sort of smell or fragrance. I mean, there's something that I smell, but it's not pungent, I just figure it's the natural olive and rosemary oils giving it a "green" smell. The Babor stuff seems very nice, though, lots of beneficial oils. |

Thanks for your replies.
I have tried samples of the DHC and I agree about not liking the scent. Since it is mostly olive oil it just smells too much like kitchen stuff. I know a lot of people use olive oil in OCM and will probably disagree with me on this but using olive oil as a cleanser does not appeal to me smell wise. It is too connected to food!
tiger_tim thanks for mentioning the myristate thingy. The Shu Uemura oil was on my list to try but I don't think I will try it now since the myristate stuff causes me to breakout also. With the BABOR, do you need to follow up with another cleanser or not? |

Oh Theresa, with your skin I absolutely would not recommend the Shu Uemura. In order to just get through the half-size bottle I had, I went back to their counter and bought the foaming cleansing water in order to remove the last traces of the oil.
With Babor, there is no need for a follow-up, but like I said I also use my muslin cloth when removing it (then finish off with the splash of water). They had a nice trial size set here in Japan (about 1/3 regular size) which is what I bought last week (and it came with nice sample pot of the lifting cream and also a sachet of mimic). |

I'm hooked on Dermalogica's PreCleanse. It removes every trace of waterproof makeup and smells so good. |

I'm currently using RMK cleansing oil and I find it's very good comparing to DHC. I like the texture much better than DHC which I think it's very rich.
I have never tried SHU so can't really compare but I've tried FANCL and I think they are both good just that FANCL is a bit more watery for me so I prefer RMK more since it's not that watery or rich and it smells like mint |

I have heard great reviews on the Hyol on MUA, I couldnt find much info about it anywhere though. So what is the main ingredient of the oil, mineral or vegetable based? And is the phytoactive like a gel/serum type of thing?
TIA |

I've been using MAC Cleanse Off Oil and really like it plus I like the fact it's easy to obtain. I've tried DHC, MAC and Fancl cleansing oils and MAC is the one I've stuck with. Fancl is comparable (thinner than DHC)in texture to MAC but MAC is just easier to get. |

Well, the regular Hy-ol ingredients are:
Glycine Soja (soybean) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (sesame) Seed Oil, Arachis Hypogaea (peanut) Oil, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Alcohol Denat., PEG-40 Sorbitan Peroleate, Fragrance (Parfum), Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Ascorbic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Water (Aqua), Alcohol, Citric Acid.
Azulen Hy-ol (combination and oily skin) has the following ingredients:
Ingredients: glycine soja (soybean) oil, sesamum indicum (sesame) seed oil arachis hypogaea (peanut) oil, decyl oleate, octyldodecanol, isopropyl alcohol, PEG-40, sorbitan peroleate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, fragrance (parfum), hypericum perforaturn extract, cholesterol, guaiazulene, mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), lecithin, tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate, glyceryl stearate, glyceryl oleate, citric acid.
The phytoactives are like a runny serum kind of texture.. just like a liquid cleanser. You can find the ingredients for each of those on dermstore.com |

Thanks Tiger Tim
Man my skin really does not like peanut oil. I know Dr H uses a lot in their products, so I'm prone to blocked pores if I use them too long.
Looks like I'll stick to my home brews. |

Thanks everyone, great replies! I am going to have to try a few. I am thinking of getting the Fancl trial kit and if I do I would probably add the Fancl cleansing oil to my order to get free shipping.
Question about the Babor. Do you have to follow up with the phytoactives? I think that the phytoactives have too much alcohol which my skin has a hard time tolerating (even the sensitive skin one has alcohol as the second ingredient!). I can tolerate a little alcohol so I don't think that the cleansing oil would be a problem but I don't think that the phytoactives would work for me. |

is the Babor Hyol worth trying? I read a lot of raves on MUA but can't tell which Hyol the raves were about - the normal or the one for oily skin? before coming to EDS, i thought there was only one type of Hyol!
can someone help me out please?
i've tried 3 kinds of shu, dhc, ipsa and KP. yet to find a truly perfect one in terms of feel(texture), scent and result.
many thanks! |

I've tried DHC, Kanebo and Missha cleansing oils, and so far my favourite is Kanebo - a lighter texture than DHC and so easy to rinse ofrf. The Missha was also very light but I found it didn't feel like it rinsed off completely. |

I really like the fancl cleansing oil. it cleans makeup so perfectly without much effort and no grease at all after rinse. my all time favourite. the only down side is it only lives for 3 months. |

My favourite is Babor hy-öl and the phytoactive combination. I've tried alot of different brands, but I always go back to Babor. You don't have to use a cleanser after the cleansing oil (that sort of ruins the hole point IMHO), and you can use the hy-öl without a phytoactive. I do think that the phytoactive is what seperates Babor from other brands, it's really a refreshing step.
Kanebos Dew cleansing oil is also nice. DHC I don't really like much, somehow I don't feel it cleanses as well as Babor and it leaves my skin feeling dry, not clean and soft. |

So far, I've tried DHC, Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Classic, and Enriched. DHC was ok. It's a lot heavier than Shu Uemura in my opinion. Shu Uemura Classic was too drying to for, so I switched to the Enriched formula, but it's now getting too drying for me again! I just ordered Babor Hy-Ol and Phytoactive Sensitive yesterday. So once I get and try them out, I'll post again.
P.S. I've found that cleansing oil is rather drying for my skin, but it's the easiest and fastest way of removing makeup. Does anyone know of a better and less drying way? |

At the moment I'm using the decleor cleansing oil and I like it. But I prefer Pure Luxe cleansing oil, for it's lemongrass smell and thick luxuriousness. I also like the Biotique almond one.
I have a shu uemura and I dont like it at all, it's the orange one and it smells like lucozade... yuck. |

In general I find cleansing oils from asian brands more drying than Babor and Decleor. I don't know why, it might be because they are made for oilier skin types. |
