Hi ladies,
I have been upping my supplement/vitamin intake as of late, (thanks to Dr Perricone, and all you ladies, esp scallywaggirl!), but as hubby and I are in full baby planning stage, I wonder which ones, if any, I should stay away from.
Basically every bottle out there says "do not take during pregnancy", even the pregnancy ones like Materna! (Obviously it's a liability thing.)
I have consulted with my doctor, and she believes that I should be getting all I need exclusively from my food intake. While I do eat mostly all organic food (in accordance with my New Year's Resolution!), and I do know that nutrients from food fare better in terms of absorption than pill popping, I still can't quite get everything I need from food. I just can't possibly eat enough to get all I need!
For a daily multi, my doctor said that any one containing Folic Acid will do, and that some brands like Materna are all just marketing. My next appt is not for a few weeks, but until then .... Does anyone know what I should particularly stay away from ?
My daily multi contains all sorts of stuff ("Progressive Multiple For Adult Women") like : Cranberry and Broccoli Extracts, Green Food Concentrates, Mineral Citrates, Coenzyme Q10, Plant Enzymes, as well as Folic Acid, and chlorella (a super anti-oxidant which is why i went with this multi), and the list goes ON and ON.
I also take one capsule of Omega 3-6-9, as well as two capsules of "Omega+Glow" containing more fish oil, red tomato extract (lycopene), vit C, vit E, etc. (My dry skin from flying thanks me for this!). I take Calcium/Mag, and a few others too. Everything in my regimen is all natural, and I would say it is far from "aggressive".
I have read somewhere that rosemary oil is something I should stay away from, and as it turns out, many capsules have a base of rosemary oil in them, but I'm sure the amount is of course very small. I hear so much conflicting information, and while I do intend on discussing this with my doctor, and am prepared to shelve my supps for a while, can anyone help?
Thanks! |

How about the Prenatal supplements from Thorne?

I've heard a lot of good things about this supplement from my co-workers. It has way more nutritional value than Materna.
I will send you a PM on some articles. |

thank you very much, yen, for the information, which was very helpful.
I was mainly wondering with regard to skincare, what kind of supplements everyone is taking to improve their skin which is actually safe to take while trying to get pregnant, or actually while pregnant. Some of our EDS members take quite a long list of supplements on a daily basis to improve their skin, and I would like to know if there are any dangers in taking any of those, similar to what Perricone and Murad are recommending.
Anyone know?
Thanks! |
