I buy these teabags which are a blend of green and black teas but taste like black tea only. I'm totally hooked on them as I feel that when I drink my 15 or so cups a day I'm being virtuous .
Defo have more energy too! That may be the caffine mind you |

Yes, perhaps my vigor is from the caffein, but I also feel that my metabolism has been given a boost. I feel cleaner and like my intestines are moving better. Could just be weird old me though. |

Green Tea is one of many antioxidant that fights againsts free radical in our body. It also helps in our digestive organ. There are Green Tea that has caffeine in it so maybe perhaps you have those "boost" feeling during the day. Overall, it's a great tea to drink! |

Yup tea is great for health Apart from green tea, try white tea - it's got more anti-oxidents than green tea! One point to note though, tea is highly cooling so ladies try to avoid taking too much tea during that time of the month. And go for whole loose tea leaves rather than tea bags! The tea bags are actually just made up of tea dust that's left over from the processing fatories *ugh* Trust me, I would know after working for a tea company on and off for the past 3 years.
Oh and if you find the taste of green/white tea too bland on it's own, mix in some flowers Rose buds with white tea helps in calming and improving the complexion while jasmine/osmanthus flowers with green tea helps in refreshing your mood
p/s: just remember not too soak the whole tea leaves for too long in the hot water or your tea will be bitter! a soak of about 50-60s will do, then filter out the tea leaves and as such you can re-soak the same filtered out tea leaves for another 3-4 times |

Actually clipper tea uses proper leaves in its bags. I actually tend to use loose tea just bunged in the cup and top it up throughout the day. Since my first post on the thread I have almost totally switched from monkey tea to green/white tea and drink about two pints a day |

Harney & Sons has some fantastic tea that comes in satchets, not bags. I love the Chinese Flower green tea--you can see the tea leaves, and the blue & pink flowers in it! I'm also in love with their cinnamon black tea--absolutely amazing if you love cinnamon! |

Yup, green tea keeps you skinny but you can't go and eat a large pizza or a couple of big mac and fries and stay skinny. Even green tea won't help you there My friend won't exercise. She said she just drinks green tea to keep her weight the same and she can still eat a lot. |

I love green tea. A friend in Beijing sent me some which is by far the nicest I've ever had.
I was in ChinaTown ( in London) today and I really didnt know which tea to buy.
The flavours vary a lot, dont they.. anyone here knowledgable enough to recommend..? |

I have a fast metabolism and if I drink green tea on an empty stomach my blood sugar levels go crazy and I'm always on the verge of passing out.
Also, people who are iron deficient should avoid drinking too much since tea hinders iron absorption and leeches iron from the blood (good for anyone who has excess iron though!).
Catski - I would recommend something with young leaves, the flavours are very delicate and not overpowering. I've bought some expensive Japanese "prime" green tea, first pickings which have not been processed too much - the flavour is far superior to ordinary organic green tea which is bitter and astringent. |

Do you happen to know of an article that states that? I love tea but I need to take iron supplements, because I have low iron. |

We make iced green tea in our iced tea maker. I buy the decaf green tea bags. Not sure how genuine this is, but it's Celestial Seasonings brand. I add just a tablespoon of honey to 2 quarts to sweeten it just a bit. We really like it. |

I wonder if the bottled Lipton diet green tea would have the same benefits? |

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm knowledgable enough but perhaps you can list down some names of the green teas that are available in London and I can give you my impressions/opinions on them? |

I love green tea too! I often have one cup a day. I am not sure exactly what it does for me because even if I don't drink it for a week, I don't feel any difference. |

I hate the taste of tea, but would love the benefits. Is there a tea out there that doesn't taste like tea? |

Yeah, there are different kind of leaves. Even the same kind, if the leaves grow in different regions, or are baked using different processes, will taste slightly different. I am no expert, just know a little bit. Tea drinking can be like wine tasting, taste more, pay attention, and one will be able to tell the subtle differences, thus enjoy the flavours more |

This was something that was mentioned to me by my doctor and a dietitian I went to, apparently it is well known that drinking tea hinders general mineral absorption but especially iron since something in tea binds to dietary iron and makes it useless for the body to absorb. But it can be offset by drinking orange juice or taking vitamin C before meals to enhance iron absorption.
I googled "tea iron absorption" and took a link from a reputable site, hope this helps
http://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/nutrition/factsheets/iron.html
Quote: |
"Tannic acid in coffee and tea also adversely affects iron absorption. Consumption of coffee or tea one hour before or after consumption of a nonheme iron dietary source can reduce absorption of this mineral by as much as 40%. Acidic foods such as tomato sauce or orange juice consumed with a nonheme iron food source such as pasta or breakfast cereal will significantly increase the amount of iron absorbed from the meal." |

If the tea is not flavoured with sugar, it may still retain some of its beneficial properties, but I am *absolutely* against drinking flavoured teas and such marketed by big companies. There is no way to know the origins and quality of tea leaves, plus many Asian tea drinks are flavour enhanced because the tea is so weak.
Tea culture is incredibly complex, I know that in China there are different "ranks" of tea, literally meaning the highest rank is only available for the highest government officials, and the several ranks below are still reserved for distinguished members in the government. So I really wonder how even the most expensive tea leaves available to the laymen (stuff that is sealed in cans, organic and prime harvest which costs $1000/kg) differ from the "first rank" leaves. |

I prefer the taste of green tea over white tea though I'm trying to drink white tea more as it's richer in anti-oxidant. I think I drink about 5-7 cups a day and I only use loose tea leaves as well. |
