I'm hearing so much about this stuff. All I can find is that it is a synthetic form of CoQ10 and supposedly and super-duper antioxidant. But only abstract on it is pretty dicey without much info describing the experiment, etc. Anyone outside of US have more info? Allergan will sell under name of Prevage in Doc's offices only but a non-Rx product. Probably about $90. Without published research, this seems rather amazing to me.....Any thoughts? |

There's a fair bit on info about Idebenone on the web but it is fairly limited in depth. It also relates to ingesting it. Which experiment description are you after? Is it the 1995 one that's mentioned here http://smart-drugs.net/JamesSouth-idebenone.htm or has a specific skincare one been done?

Hi, Mabsy,
Thanks for the link. But I was hoping for some published research on it's use in the skincare arena. I have seen one abstract that hasn't been published - only presented at the Amer.Acad. of Derm. convention this year. But it was quite sketchy and didn't describe the experiment very well. Though it concluded that idebenone was a better antioxidant than any other substance on the market right now. I am suspicious only because it was an Allergan-related test facility that helped do the research. Just looking for some independent information to help me decide whether this stuff will really be worth the $90 or not.... |

There's an article in the Jan'04 Allure issue (not that I'm saying it's a credible source... ) that talks about the (then) upcoming Acad of Derm presentation. There's a sentence or two in there that says that another Derm's criticism of that study is that Idebenone has not been compared to pomegranate or green tea (both powerful antioxidants). That's all I could find. I searched all the med/derm journals in the database at work and could not find anything about it.

That's exactly what makes me wonder about it...why no published info on it's use in skincare if it is soooo wonderful. Hmmm. Probably someone on the board will use and then we will have first-hand experience to talk about. |
