Help... I stop using hormonal contraception a few weeks ago and my skin is going crazy! I don't recognize my skin anymore and I don't know how to approach my problems... Question My skin is suddenly oil, but dry and I have breakout all over. Not big cyctic acne, just small red blemishes/marks that doesn't heal quickly like before. I hope it will normalize soon, but what do I do in the now to calm my skin down?

My skin freaked out when I stopped BC a few months ago too. Time has seemed to helped but unfortunately I haven't found a 'cure' yet .
I found some more information that may be able to help you in this thread:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?p=151492&highlight=vitex+agnus+castus#151492

p.s. I hear "Schni Schna Schnappi" in my head every time I see your screen name. I haven't ever heard the actual song. A few silly Swiss family friends were trying to teach it to us last summer.
LOL You might not even know what I'm taking about, and honestly, I don't either Smile

I'd adjust my skincare to accomodate the oilies you are going through. If things get worse I'd go back to the Doctor to see if there is anything more you could do to help your skin.

Thank you for replying. I am hoping my problems are only temporary, but I've used BC for so long I don't actually know what is normal for my skin. Embarassed I hate to change my routine now, when I finally found some that worked great... I will try with the Dr H. balancing oil (I have a large sample), and maybe buy another cleanser...

Sundew, about the "world's most annoying song", yes I've heard it and I HATE it. Luckily it was just a summer hit, or I would have had to... do something to someone.. Laughing

I seriously dread the day where I'm going to have to go off BCP for the exact same reason. I know my skin will absolutely flip out. Apparently it's very common.
I know when my hormones are going crazy, it helps to make sure you are getting enough B vitamins and try taking evening primrose oil supplements.

Yes, it's not exactly much fun... On the bright side it seems like the DH balancing oil (in combination with some apricot oil) helps with the oil/dry combination, the impurities I will have to see how developes. I don't really want to start using harsh products, so I bought some La Roche-Posay toleriane cleanser and moisturiser today and hope that irritation will calm down.

I bought some Vitex today as recommended in the other thread. I'll have to keep you updated on how it works out. It would be great to hear how your choices work out for you too. Good luck!

I guess I'm glad I've never had to listen to that actual song Smile

Just a quick update. Seems to have the oiliness under control with the Dr. H normalizing oil. Very strange since I really didn't like it when I got the sample last fall, now I'm glad I didn't throw it out... Laughing My skin is actually nicely moisturised. Downside, still breakouts.... Confused

And the La Roche-Posay toleriane cleanser is absolutely useless at removing makeup, as I discovered today (and I wore a thin layer mmu, a bit concealer and non-waterproof mascara). But, it is very nice cleanser when your not wearing makeup and just want to freshen up.

Just wanted to give an update. My skin has calmed down, and is almost back to what it was before I stopped using BC. Actually I think my skin is a bit better now! Shock Much less dehydrated, and the odd zit around my periode I can live with! My routine is almost back to normal, but I've added the clinique mild clarifying lotion to my routine, and I really do like it... Embarassed
