Hi guys!
I just got Lactic Acid 10% from Diana Yvonne, but I've never used it before and I'm not sure how to use it. When is the best time to use it? Am or pm? How often can I use it? I'm thinking about starting off at once a week as my skin is sensitive. Another question. In the directions on the bottle, it says to use 100% pure hyaluronic moisturizer afterward. Is it necessary? Can I just use a normal moisturizer? I also purchased squalane oil with it. Can I use this instead?
TIA!

Hi Lynn,
I have also got this product.
I use it once or twice a week. I only keep it on for a minute or so as my skin is sensitive - make sure you wash it off very well.
Experiment with what feels better afterwards. I personally love PSF ALN (squalane).
I'd use it pm if I was you as it makes your skin potentially more prone to sun damage. |

Thanks Emma. I just used it just now and put Diana Yvonne squalane oil on afterwards. It felt alright, but I'm gonna experiment with different moisturizers. I wasn't sure how to use it, so I just put some LA on a cotton pad and wipe it on my face. On the bottle, it says to buff it in, but I just didn't have a clue how. I didn't really leave it on. As soon as I finished wiping it on my face (and throwing away the cotton pad) I quickly wash it off with cold water. Honestly, as for using it am or pm, I don't see how it should make a difference in my case. I hardly ever leave my apartment during the day and I usually don't leave my place until 9-10 pm so I hardly ever see any sun ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

Honestly I'm not even sure. I think it helps get rid of dead skin cells and helps with skin turnover. But when I used it this afternoon I noticed some dirt on the cotton pad which I never get when I simply use toner. |

You know you are a skincare junki when you use products without really knowing why!
I do have a clensing milk with LA, maybe I should use it more often? |

I've got this and I squirt a bit onto my fingers and smear it on. I built up slowly and got to the point where I could leave it for 20 mins and then wash off.
Yesterday however I got a really bad reaction to something. My skin looks like crap at the moment so I'm sticking with HA and emu ![Sad](images/smiles/sad.gif) |

Maybe I should just stick with doing some yoghurt masks, wonder if prune will do?
Actually, if I use blueberry yoghurt I will get the benefit from both LA (whatever they may be..) and blueberry (antioxidants)... hm... ![Cool](images/smiles/cool.gif) |

Lactic acid is an AHA - commonly used for exfoliating the surface of the skin. Generally, it is best to use AHAs at night as they make your skin more sensitive to the sun (or perhaps rather they "unearth" new skin which is more sensitive because it's not blocked by dead skin cells anymore to protect it).
I'm not familiar with the DI product you're talking about but I use a JM serum that has 10% AHA and 2% BHA and I leave this on overnight. Are there any instructions that come with the product?
Also, re: hyaluronic acid over the top. AHAs tend to be drying so using HA over the top can certainly help get the moisture down into the skin. Whether you need this really depends on your skin type. I use a HA serum when I have one "in stock" so to speak but can do without it as well and I'm not currently using one (just Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel over the 10% AHA serum).

Actually, I should add that what I said about sun sensitivity holds regardless when you use it and you should make sure (even more so than usual) that you use sunblock when using AHAs. Still, I have read that using them in the morning sensitizes the skin. |

Maybe that's what happened with me. Come to think of it the only thing I have done differently is add sunscreen in the morning when mutt walking as the weather has been sunny rather than thick fog as is usual. Maybe it's gone off ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

Thanks everyone for the replies I've only used it once late afternoon today, so from now on I'll use it at night as recommended by you guys. The directions on the bottle says to put some on a cotton pad and buff it in the skin, then rinse off and use HA. I don't have any HA on hands so I'm just gonna use whatever moisturizers I have. I'm wondering if I can use it everyday. I didn't leave it on long at all (about 1-2 min) before I washed it off. Also, for those of you who are using LA, are you using using any other exfoliators too?
P.S. I'm pretty certain I'm protected from the sun. Besides the fact that I hardly ever leave my house before sunset, I always wear high SPF sunscreen even when I'm just sat at home in front of a computer ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I don't use this very often, but I really like the diana yvonne product (10% 1.9 ph gel).
start slow and for goodness sake DON'T buff it in!!
the first time i used this, it was only for about 30 seconds - literally put it on
(I used my fingers and applied a light coat - the "squirt and smear" method), then rinsed off.
worked up, gradually adding another minute or two, after every application when there was no irritation.
some redness afterward can be expected, but
if your skin remains pink/red for several hours after, you've pushed to far.
as of now, I can leave this on for 10/15 mins full face
(this does vary - some days my skin seems more sensitive, so i'll rinse off sooner).
if I'm spot treating, I can leave this on overnight.
HA is not necessary. if you have no reaction to the squalane, (or emu) these would be your best choices.
I'd be careful which "normal" moisturizer you use immediately after
(my face starts stinging just thinking about it).
emu and squalane are great healers, with nothing else added - very simple.

I use exfol serum (this one mostly - the ohters for an occasional boost), 2% 1.9 bha, and 5% 1.9 bha in addition.
fwiw...I use bha more than the aha, and i do not use bha everyday |

How does this differ from glycolic peels? Is it stronger? |

Thanks I think I'm gonna try smearing it on with my fingers. I really didn't like rubbing a cotton pad across my face. However, I've noticed that recently my fingers on my right hand (except for my thumb) have been peeling a lot. I'm suspecting it's from touching active products with them all the time as I'm only using my right hand to apply products to my face. Hmm...I'll have to be careful with LA. I'm concerned about using another exfoliator as I've been using Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads 2-3 times a week. |

I wouldn't use it in the day. I use it 2x a week at night. |
