Hello all, first time poster, but have been lurking, reading, studying forever. I have a Double C, Vitamin C Serum- it contains Sodium Ascorbate and Ascorbic Acid Polypeptide but no L-Ascorbic which seems to be the most recommended. Any thoughts on the effectivness of this stuff?
Thanks in advance,
Linda |

Not knowing the concentrations it'll be tough to call on the potency but not having ascorbic acid it will be a more stable serum.
Just curious, what's the base? |

Ingredients list: Algae Extract, Aloe Vera Gel, Chamomile Extract, Witch Hazel, Collagen, NaPCA (Sodium PCA), Oat Extract, Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C Ascorbate), Ascorbic Acid Polypeptide (Vitamin C Polypeptide), Phospholipids, Bloodroot Extract, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
As the Vit C is in the middle, I would think it is a mid range or content.
Thanks, it also has a 3/09 expiration, I've had it a while, not used consistent and was going to start on a regular basis. I do think it's probably oxizedized and may need to replace.
Thanks again,
Linda |

3/09 - as is March 9th? would have to be I can't see it being March of 2009...
There are those here that may have issue with the inclusion of the Aloe. My guess would be this is probably a very soothing gel-like consistancy. All in all I think it looks like a pretty nice serum. Of course, simply my opinion ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Not sure, but I took 3/09 to be 2009-- I've had this stuff at least a year, but never really gave it a chance before. I've been using it more regular in the past week or so; it is pretty soothing, doesn't seem to dry out my skin or cause flakies. I have some sun spots I hope to fade as well as wrinkles I'd like to soften (I don't expect they will ever go away).
I've also been using an AHA cream at nite, my skin does seem to have gotten a bit better, not sure which product is doing it though
Thanks again,
Linda |

Well, color me wrong then - I guess it does mean March of 2009. wow...
It's probably a combination of the 2, but leaning toward the AHA cream just due to the age of the C serum. You might wanna think about replacing it.
Again, JMHO...
Keep at it, I think often people forget, their skin 'issues' (spots, wrinkles, etc) didn't happen over-night & repairing them won't happen overnight either. |

Hi Linda101 - I'm admittedly picky about any Vit.C serum I use, but after looking at the list of ingredients in your product, I can't imagine any benefit you're experiencing is because it's a good example of an effective C serum. An expiration date of 2009 only reinforces this in my mind. But it's soothing characteristic is probably of value considering you're using an AHA product at night, which I would agree is likely more responsible for any noticeable improvement you've seen in your skin.
I like AHAs when my skin texture needs refinement, and they'll definitely soften the look of fine lines and help with discoloration. If overused they can cause dryness though, and keep in mind they make your skin much more vulnerable to photo damage, so be sure to use a good sunscreen. This is very important!
A well-formulated C serum can also help with fine lines as well as pigmentation issues -- mine does. Used in tandem with AHAs and sunscreen, it's possible that over time you could experience some significant improvement of your wrinkle and sun spot issues.
Candy8865 makes her own C sera and sells them. The product I've been using for going on two years now is SkinCeuticals CE+Ferulic (I keep it in the refrigerator BTW). |

Thank you both for your responses. I also think the AHA has made the most noticable difference so far and I am going to replace the Vit C. I am on the search for the best face sunscreen and mostly just dodge the sun right now; not hard since I'm in dreary Erie (I know, the sun works even when you can't see it) but the most I do is run from building to car at the moment. I plan to pick up a sunscreen this weekend to start trying. Don't want to undo all I've achieved so far.
Thanks Again--- DMEA and HA are next on the list to get.

Just out of interest - what product is this Linda? I don't think I've seen any using a C polypeptide before. |
