If you have has it helped? Would you do it again? If you had to do it again...Would you?
I've been dealing with dry and allergy eyes since my 20's. I use Patanol in my eyes... then I'll wait 10 minutes and use artificial tears and now, I'm using the Similasan. This last time my optometrist (yesterday) looked at my eyes they weren't as dry, but I've been dealing with this kind of like blister that won't go away. Btw, it's on my eye. It finally was getting much smaller. It was tiny in fact, so I put on my contacts (which are for dry eye sufferers) and went out. Well...needless to say it is huge again. Has anyone had that problem before?
I'm sorry to vent, but I don't want to have my tear ducts plugged up if it may not help. Another thing he mentioned was Restasis, but one of the side effects of Restasis is no tear production if I ever go off. I would appreciate any suggestions I can get. TIA |

I had my tear ducts plugged after I got Lasik surgery years ago. It did not help my eyes at all. The doctor did this twice on me, if I remember correctly. I also thought this hurt, nothing severe but it did hurt nevertheless. Sorry, can't be of any more help. Good luck to you. |

I suffered terribly with dry eyes and the attending infections on a regular basis with drops and antibiotics etc, my opthamologist wanted to plug my ducts too, he said he'd never seen anybody 'drain' at the rate I did - abnormally fast I guess.
Then I found an ND who told me to drastically increase my Omega 3 intake. I have done so and not had any trouble for the last two years. It might be worth trying. |

My cats' Vet had it done. It worked really well for her. |

Ahhh...yes, it is worth a try and I will gladly see if it works. Thank you Dahli.
Thank you yogi! Has she stated how bad her eyes were before the plugging of the tear ducts? |

Hi Dahli,
I was wondering what is the dosage of the Omega 3 that you are taking? Thanks.
Thanks Yogi |

So sorry I haven't been back here but I couldnt' remember where I'd posted
I use flaxseed oil, walnut oil, and fish for my omega 3 sources daily plus a tablespoon of carslon's cod liver oil and salmon oil supplement capsules, but mostly it comes from my food sources as much as possible including 2 tablespoons ground flax seed. I also like Krill oil when I can find it and afford it - $$$$
Don't forget to use a full mixed vitamin E along with.
HTH! |

I have had my tear ducts plugged twice. The first time, it was really painful. It looked like a long thin candle and the doctor 'twisted' them into my ducts. It did help with my dry eyes, however, I metabolized it very quickly. The doctor said it would last 4-6 months. It lasted 2.5 months. The second time was about six months ago. Much less painful. This time they used a gel-pac looking thing that I was told was pure silicone. And, this time, they were called duct implants. I thought, my luck! I'm finally paying for implants and they are in my tear ducts! I can hear people now, you know those aren't the tear ducts she was born with, they are OBVIOUSLY enhanced! LMK if you have any other questions. I really think it helps. |

Hi lisaroberts,
Thank you for your post. So...it seems like the implants have helped your eyes. I need to do something. I haven't worn contact for almost a week. My eyes are inflamed but not so dry anymore. I think the tears have been helping. |

Sffreak,
I have not had this procedure, but may eventually need it. Sorry I can't help you conceretly with that. But just in case this is of use:
Have you tried natural supplements to deal with this yet?
One of the most helpful things for dry eye are the Momega 3 fatty acids -- fish oil and flax.
i was suffering from dry eyes this year because for the first time in my life I'd had to take of antihistamines. Googling "dry eye" or some related expression pointed me to an optometrist who specializes in it and carries some products for it. I actually just saw him this week, because he's in NY. (last name Sclussel, if you want to see the products)
I had actually intended to post about my visit with him, because of course I asked him about the Jan Marini & Revitalash issue!
Anyway, fish oils are good for the skin, for cholesterol, for mental health -- seems like the most conservative approach if you haven't tried them yet, and if you don't have a clinically urgent case. |

Hi alibabka,
Thank you so much for posting. I actually was going to buy some today. Can I ask how many you take a day of the Omega 3? How long does it take to start helping? Thanks again! |

Yes, it definately helped. Also, Dahli, I totally forgot about mentioning the krill oil! I have been taking 2 pills a day for the last six months --- what a godsend! The site I have been ordering from:
http://www.pureprescriptions.com/neptune-krill-oil.asp
has been really great. I asked my opthomologist what he takes, and these are it. He was really impressed with this company, etc. I wrote down the website from his bottle (on his desk) and came home and ordered it. My skin and nails look better, too - and they weren't in bad shape. I always feel like a walking commercial for these. I'm not affiliated, etc. etc. I just love to share when something works. Dahli, have you found a brand you like? |

I forgot, the Omega 3's can be good for PMS!!!! I noticed that when I took krill oil, thanks for mentioning it, lisaroberts.
sffreak,
I take a fish oild called (Super)Fisol. I have chosen this one because it has an enteric coating. Their marketing angle is that this means superior absorbtion. I can't claim to have objectively observed that, but I do know that the enteric coating usually means no fish burp-up. I would recommen trying this, and trying krill oil as well.
I have also taken a supplement called zyflamend, which has trumeric and ginger and a number of things that are supposed to be counteracting inflammation. I first started on these things because of a chronic pain condition. The doctor i saw this week stated flat out that dry eye is primarily triggered by inflammation, which I hadn't known before, so I am going to have to resume takeing all of my omega 3s and zyflamend in a more disciplined way and see if I do better. i am also trying to be judicious with the antihistamines.
The Fisol is meant to be taken 1 capsule, 1 to 3 times per day. I take one or two -- when I remember to do it!
If the enteric coating or fish taste burp-up doesn't bother you, then you might research cheaper options, and research the question of how crucial it is for the oils to pass through the stomach before being absorbed. Could be an overly-hyped issue by the Fisol people.
Also, I think that doctor was Schlussel, with an h, rather than my misspelled version above. |
