Hi,
Sorry, I know there are lots of threads on yoga, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm a complete beginner and my main aims are to reduce STRESS and improve the quality/length of my sleeping.
Which one should I go for?
Thanks, Molly |

Hi Molly,
I had pretty much the same intentions like yours when I started with yoga some 7 years ago. I was lucky because right the first "sort" I tried was the right one for me and i felt in love immedietely : it was Hatha yoga at the Sivananda yoga centre so there is a bit of chanting and meditation as well, which in the meantime very much belongs to yoga for me.
That time I had problems to turn myself off after hard days of work, suffered from insomnia, was nervous and aggressive.
I started to exercise 1-2 times a week, learned technics I could use at home or wherever for a quick relax.
There is a fancy studio in London : Jivamukti which I was ogling for a long time and recently got an excellent book about from a precious friend. I guess, it's probably very expensive. But there are Sivananda centres in London as well.
I would definitely suggest to start with a group or teacher, specially on the beginning your positions have to be controlled by somebody else (you could harm yourself).
I'm very much a fan of Hatha, but there is Ashtanga, Iyengar, etc., etc. - check them out and find the most suitable for you. I'm absolutely sure that there is a right sort of yoga for everybody out there.
P.M. me if you need more, or more detailed info.
love,

Another good yoga dvd is Geri Halliwells from the Spice Girls She does all my favourite postures (i usually skip the standing one's though)
Ive tried others but always go back to this one. I have the last one she released with Katie Appleton. |

Thanks all - I'll look into what you've suggested, though I can't somehow picture myself doing it with an old Spice girl |

Perhaps you can try getting a DVD/VCD from OM yoga? It's quite soothing for me and I find their teaching very easy to follow |
