Most of the time I use an electric razor (Remington Smooth & Silky) b/c it is inevitable that I will get itchy legs in about 20-30 hours after I shave with a regular razor (if I do shave this way, I use the Venus razor). I also am prone to razor bumps and ingrown hairs when I shave with regular razors. Even if it's a brand spanking new razor and I use shaving creams, gels, oils or soaps... it doesn't matter what- the result is always the same- itchy! (My skin is VERY sensitive!)
Does anyone recommend a good electric razor? The Remington provides a somewhat close shave... never as close as a regular razor. I am just wondering if there is an even better e-razor out there.
My other choice is to have my legs and bikini area lasered.... when I can afford it. But for now it seems that an electric razor is my only option. I also hate waxing.  |

I use an epilator (Emjoi) so I can't recommend a shaver. But I thought you might try a shaving oil with a razor - it may prevent some of your shaving issues. Carekate posted a DIY version:

How about using a men's electric shaver? (Anyone know the difference between a women's electric shaver and a men's electric shaver?... isn't it that the men's doesn't fit women's contours as well and that it lifts the hair right before it cuts it?)
For anyone that uses an epilator... how used to it do you get? I.e., does the pain of using it lessen to such an extent that it becomes pain-free? Anyone with sensitive skin use one? |

| There's a few other threads on epilators and the "Ouch" factor so do a search but personally i think you do get used to it. I use the Braun Silk Epil which wasn't even painful the very first time i used it.So,theoretically you can become more hair free in more delicate places over a period of time. |

I've tried several men's (and women's!) electric razors and didn't find any of them particularly effective. As your previously noted, none of them give a completely close shave. To me, after using an electric razor, it was like I hadn't even shaved my legs b/c -- although there was no visible hair -- my legs didn't have that "silky smooth" feel that you get from normal razors.
You said you use a Venus when you shave now, but have you ever tried the men's Gilette Fusion? I know it sounds ridiculous to use a razor w/ 5-blades but IT REALLY DOES MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE! Before you spend money on a new electric razor, please give the Gilette Fusion a chance! Pick one up at Walgreens or CVS, that way if you don't like it, you can return it for a no-questions-asked refund and put that money towards Guapa's Seiko Cleanshave....

P.S. I don't really recommend an epilator for anyone that's prone to ruzor bumps and/or ingrowns because I found my pre-disposition towards them got worse from using my epilator for a few months time. Ingrowns are caused when the hair curls back on itself and therefore can't break through the surface of the skin so it stands up straight. I don't know how/why, but the epilator made me have even more funky, curly leg hairs that turned into horrible ingrowns and razor bumps.   |

Thanks for the replies. 
I was afraid that using an epi would lead to bumps/ingrown hairs especially if I'm already very sensitive so I will forgo considering one for now.
Carrie, I will def give the Gilette Fusion a try. I was actually considering but hadn't sprung for one yet. It says a lot that you are still using it after more than a year.
Do you think the friction associated with razor shaving is what causes the intense itching 20-30 hours after I use my Venus? |

My guess is that's the likely culprit. Or, it could be the combo of the razor drag and perhaps one of the ingredients in the shave cream/gel/foam/whatever that you're using is causing you to react.
When you're done shaving, maybe think about making a homemade spritz that would soothe your skin before the itching starts. I'm thinking perhaps getting a Lavender hydrosol and put it in a bottle with a spray top, or maybe make your own spritz using distilled water, a bit of soy lecithin (emulsifier) and some Lavender EO. I have a homemade spritz that I use if I've gotten mosquito-bitten or bitten by fleas (I just adopted 3 rescue kittens and they brought in a few fleas until I gave them a Capstar pill and I got quite a few bites in unmentionable places  before I was able to kill the fleas in my carpets and stuff) and I'm itching like fire and it stops the maddening itch immediately. Thanks Carrie. I will try a hydrosol or some such spritz. Usually I've just been slapping on some lotion and that's it.
You adopted 3 kittens? I wish you could post some pics of them . This means between you and your mom you must have many cats running around, eh?  Some day I hope to be in the position to adopt more kitties... for now I take time to play with the cats at the Petco adoption "center" whenever I'm in there getting stuff. Those poor little guys... I pray that they find good homes soon. Sometimes I fear that I will end up becoming one of those old ladies with 100 cats in her home.

Eleven, to be exact! And that doesn't include the feral cats that I feed outside. But I've made a deal with my mom that I'll buy all the food and gritty-kitty and pay the vet bills if she'll handle litterbox duties -- it's expensive, but I believe I've gotten the fairer end of the deal! |
