I live in North East FL and have decided that I am going to spend the next hot summer somewhere cooler! I can work from anywhere, but need to be relatively close to an airport.
Any ideas for a town where I can rent a place for 3 months or so and not pay a super premium tourist price? I am starting with a rental, and eventually hope to move permanently. Any feedback is appreciated! |

Toby, that is the first one that came to mind, but it is pretty pricey from a seasonal rental standpoint because it is so well known. But it sure would be nice!
Do you happen to know anyone with rental property? |

Hi,
It depends on what you are looking for.
Asheville - great. Very artsy, large vegetarian community, cute downtown, very open-minded in attitude and less conservative that other NC mountain towns. It is very touristy (expensive) - so maybe look at surrounding towns?
If you are going for scenery, nothing beats the area around the border of NC and TN. Spectacular. Asheville is really in the "foot hills" - while beautiful, the views are better elsewhere. The area around the Nantahala (sp?) river is great, I have gone white water rafting there a few times.
My dear friend lived in Asheville for a few years, I will check with her for other options.
hope that helps,

Thanks Erg! I am looking for beautiful views and cooler weather, but still be able to eat out regularly. So not too much in the boonies, but doesn't have to be high end either.
I figured I would start planning now and then have something lined up for next July, Aug, Sept. |
