I couldn't believe my luck I was in Waitrose reading the moisturiser labels (as you do ) and I've been looking all over online for something DIY with ceramides and sphingo - whatevers because I've lately realised my emu doesn't have everything the skin needs for barrier maintenance and I found this incredible DIY product online, but the postage was exhorbitant. So, just now I found Umi Lotus Flower & Oat Face Cream which is only £3.00 (Waitrose own-brand) and contains all the things I've been lusting after: Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine and Ceramide 1
only thing is they are way down the ingredients list making me think it's got to be a really tinsy percentage. Bad aroma, but feels great. I'll keep you posted. |

I've been looking at that line of stuff, be waiting to hear your opinion. Good Work, Molly.
Have you got a link to the exorbitant postage stuff? I like looking at things I cant afford. Well, I must do, because I do it a lot... |

It's extremely cheap, and the positioning on the list of ingredients is somewhat worrying, but wouldn't it be wonderful if this did turn out to be fab.
Looking forward to hearing your results. |

This week's verdict on the stuff - it's very, very NAUGHTY and not in a nice way.
I only saw the nice ingredients because they were what I was looking for, but now I've looked up some of the less familiar ones I remember why I haven't bought standard moisturisers for years. It's chocker with irritants; suractants, UV filters which absorb and break down and massive levels of preservatives.
Wouldn't you expect something a bit classier from Waitrose? |

Awwwwwww. Blummin' shame.
Yep, not at all what you'd expect from Waitrose. They're even posher than my beloved Sainsbury's. |

OH what a pity. Yet not such a surprise.
That site you linked to is quite some place, Molly.
I have a non science background and I marvel at the depth you get into in your skincare awareness.
What are you going to do next on your quest for ceramides and sphingo - whatevers?
How is your skin feeling/ looking? |

I'm blushing Catski In fact I'm a total science ninny since I gave it up in favour of the languages and arts at age 14.
I think art gives you a keen eye for observation though and now I know science and art were once so closely linked in history I take more of an interest in it. Seems more practical to me these days.
I only used the Umi for 3 days because I got suspicious that it might be exfoliating me. Skin's still looking good, though I'm in hot debate with myself about adding back the Supercop and the Ystheal in lower doses. |

Have you been reading the Dawkins unweaving the rainbow?
I love having science explained to me, it's fascinating. I watched an amazing film recently called what the bleep do we know about quantum physics and it was quite incredible. obviously presented in a populist format so peeps such as myself could understand it.
Anyway. you have become so very wary of exfoliation, havent you. I will go and check out your no - acids experiment thread to find out what you are up to.
I probably wont understand it. I read all the stuff in the thread about signals and receptors.
It slipped around in my head as I read it, and I just essentially took away a reinforcement that skin gets used to stuff and stops responding to it, which is why we have to shift our tactics every so often. |

A kind American is going to send me the sample above and then I'm going to make a light souffle with emu (for all the omegas) and water for a little lightness. Need to buy a simple emulsifier.
I checked out the shelves again today; M&S do a bit better with their night ceramide treatment and Desert Essence have a good but expensive one, but I really can't give up the emu - just want to add to it. |

The light souffle sounds yummy.
BTW, VitaminLIfe.com have 40% off desert essence at the moment. |
