As far as I understand, CPs work by stimulating the root area of the hair follicle, making it - and the skin around it - produce new healthy cells. Or something like that Well, if an area of the skin has no hair, such as lips, does it mean the CPs won't work there? If they WILL work, does anyone know how? |

Hi Rogneda - I think this is a slight misunderstanding. The CPs don't target hair follicles, but signal the repair mechanism more generally and one of the first signs of recovery is healthier hair follicles, but that's only part of the repair package which includes increased proteins/collagen. You can certainly use it on hair-free areas too and they won't sprout BTW |

Does anyone use cp's on their lips?
With what result? |

Yes, I do - don't really notice anything actually. So why do I do it |

What surprised me was the advert I saw for copper on Goody hair brushes as a selling point. |

Hi Molly,

Are you sure? The skin biology website says:
"Skin remodeling starts with the hair follicles. The body's signal for remodeling first activate the systems that break down damaged proteins and remove damaged skin lesion. Various proteins (proteolytic enzymes) start braking down scars and damaged tissue . Then the signals enlarge the hair follicles in the skin area to be rebuilt. New skin cells arise from the hair follicle and migrate into the surrounding skin area." (http://www.skinbiology.com/copperpeptideregeneration.html)
This is why I thought hair follicles were necessary for CPs to work. Am I misunderstanding this quote?

Hi Rogneda - I am absolutely certain, but I can see why that para might be misinterpreted.
CP molecules were originally discovered to be in large quantities at the site of wounds. They're delivered by the blood system and trigger the repair mechanism. This is a topical way of triggering that mechanism without the wounding.
Interestingly, my father just got a big gash on his bald patch and his own self-healing is triggering new hair growth there. |

That is amazing, isnt it.
That's the best explanation I've read of what cp's do, Molly.
Vivid and clear. Thankyou. |
