Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY)! filled it with GAS from Saudi Arabia and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia), Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE.! France!!) and turned on his TV(MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.. AMERICA..... |

Exactly! I call Sallie Mae...they are in India. I call my Macy's account...again in India. I think all of this is seriously wrong. What is this going to do to our economy? |

I called my mortgage company about my escrow account...dispatched to India...could barely understand the English due to the accent. Never did get my question answered and had to call back during the weekday (during normal business hours, whatever). I really dislike outsourcing!!! |

One of the major problems with outsourcing our accounts containing sensitive information is that these foreign countries either have little incentive to abide by U.S. laws and/or are simply beyond the reach of U.S. laws. Isn't it nice to know that someone working in a call center mill in a foreign country has access to your address, banking information, date of birth, social security number, etc., etc., etc.? I wonder how many "MermaidGirls" (insert real name here) there are now wandering around these foreign countries. I already know that I have had 3 instances of identity theft or breach of my sensitive information here in the U.S. alone. Nice, huh?
So glad to know my student loan info is now being handled by someone in India. God only knows what else has been sent overseas. |

Totally agree with you MermaidGirl!! This is a major problem in the US, IMHO. I have had my SSN compromised here in our country along with other personal information stolen. I never gave much thought to outsourcing before in regards to my personal info being compromised...but now I do!! Arrghh! What's a person to do??? |

I would imagine we could find out which of our credit card and other accounts are handled off shore and cancel those accounts or move them to a company that does NOT outsource (are there even any that don't?). Outsourcing is a financial issue - the companies that do it do so because they can (allegedly) get the same service for a lot less money. Customer satisfaction and customer confidence in the security of their personal information is obviously not a consideration for these companies that outsource - they care about THEIR bottom line, not how you feel about personal security! |

We have exactly the same problems in the UK, you want to speak to your bank and you are speaking to someone in India and the amount of security questions you have to answer is ridiculous. I can't always understand what they're saying either.
It really bugs me that all our extremely personal details are held in India and there has been loads of instances of fraud.
No-one will do anything about it, because they're cheap! |

We have also just come back from a holiday in America and made a point of trying to buy items made in America, it was really hard. Most of the stuff was made in China and it's the same for us in the UK now. |
