I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had restilyn injections. Has it been a good or bad experience and have you liked or disliked the results. |

Yes, I have & loved it. No reaction other than major bruising, but I bruise easily anyway. I had my laugh line & growing marionette lines filled as well as a large chicken pox scar that was on my nose smack between my eyes. I liked it so much that I decided to get the permanent stuff one vile at a time. It isn't cheap so that will spread the cost out pretty much. People don't know that you have had anything done but they know that something is different & you look pretty darn good. |

I've done it on my nasolabial lines 3 times. Two 1/4 syringes (should have just sprung for the whole but wanted to ease in and see how I liked it), and 2 weeks ago I went for the whole syringe. First time bruising, 2nd & 3rd very light, but I do bruise easy. Very lasting results 6-7 months. Pain, yes some along the outer lip lines. Dont' have my lips done just the corners. My med/spa usually runs a special twice a year and that's when I go. |

what exactly is the difference between collagen and Restylane??? I had collagen injected in a chicken pox scar about 6 months ago, and its just now starting to come back. |

Not sure about collagen but I know that Restylane is an HA and so is naturally absorbed back into the skin. |

thank you so much for all your input. I have a daughter getting married on July 13th. Do I still have enough time to have it done and not have any bruising and have it look good.
Of course the bride is the star of the show, BUT the mother has to be right at her side |

Get then now! Bruising only lasts two days for me, swelling if I get lippies about 3 days but--
No aspirin, aleve ect 1 week prior (tylenol ok)
Little to no Vit e one week prior
Anrica gel from health food store to apply afterwards, eating fresh pineapple seems to help swelling!
Think you'll love it! |

Yep, you have got plenty of time but don't wait too long just in case. Being a big bruiser normally, this time I only had a tiny bruise on my mouth corner. The first time I bruised heavily but I had 2 injections on the same area 2 days apart to get the line to fill. Should not have done it that way because the area was already sore when it had to be manipulated. |

It's called Radiesse (I'm in Canada) & it's a 3-5 year filler. Per vial, my doctor charges $850.00 and I have had three in total over the past 6 months. I think that I will only get one more (well, maybe two ). My nasolabial folds needed alot & also the corners of my mouth needed a fair amount but WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I still can't believe it! My last vial(s), I'll do my heavy duty frown lines, forehead &/or other creases just to use up the bottle. I go every other month for botox touchups so that has stayed cheap because I don't use alot at one billing. The only place that I take the botox is on my frown areas and the doc says that the amount of it will decrease after the Radiesse.
I agree about not waiting too long before a special event to have anything even temporary done. I am a big bruiser as well & this last lot of filler has not been funny. It has been 8 days & I have barely progreesed from purple to pink & yellow. Ugh. But it will disappear shortly... |

Thanks RuthMarion, I am in Canada too, and this sounds most interesting. Is there more bruising with the permanent one?
All the best for the wedding tthagen1! |

RuthMarion, that is so cool...I'm a medical writer and I am doing freelance work for the company that makes Radiesse. I've been working on some articles (working with docs who administer it) on its use for facial contouring as well as a couple of other things. You are the first person I ever "met" who's actually gotten it.
By the way, it is not yet approved for aesthetic use in the US, but there are many plastic surgeons experienced in its use here (it is considered off-label but legal). Glad to hear that it is working for you.
PS. Did your doctor have you apply ice before and after injection? Was it more or less painful than Restylane? |

I think that I'm ready for the old folks home - I should put the money I spend on anti-aging products towards my room & board there.
I looked at my bill, & apparently I have DermDeep not Radiesse like I thought. That in itself is not a problem for me because I am totally impressed with the results, but......pretty soon no one will believe a word I say !!!
I tried googling DermLive & DermaDeep & got conflicting info from doctors using it but my doc told me that it was a semi-permanent (3-5 year) product developed in the UK and I (think?) I believe him . Just kidding. When I looked at the Canadian distributor I saw that it was through the same place that handles Vivier here & guess what? My doctor uses Vivier & Biophora Products. Imagine. I have been happy with everything that he has suggested to me so I find no reason to think that the injections that I had done won't work or last .
Now, with that being said....
It really hurt when I had the needles. I opted for no freezing thinking that I'd rather tough it out. When I had Restylane it was uncomfortable & I had some bruising but this was different altogether. Maybe because the nurse went so deep - I don't know - but I sure had a grip on the bed until she pulled the needle out. I used ice after the injections & took arnica pills the week before. No aspirin, ibuprofen, tylenol or like meds either before or after. It didn't hurt at all even right after - I would forget that I had it done until I walked past a mirror. Yikes!
I would recommend it without any reservations except to say have it done way before anything special in case you end up bruising too.
And, by the way, now I'm wondering if I should try the Radiesse for my last vial(s) towards the end of the summer. The doctor carries it as well & that must be why the name stuck in my head

It is funny...Since I have been working on these articles and looking at the before and after pictures I keep saying to myself, "Hey, I need that. Ooh, yeah. I could use some here. And a little here, too."
I'm getting to the point where I would be willing to write for free injections!
Some of the stuff I read about is just gross and I can hardly bear to look at some of the pictures. Today I was reading about how hyaluronic acid is derived from rooster combs. Who knew?
By the way, I know needle size is a factor in pain, and some of the different fillers require a somewhat bigger gauge needle--that might explain your recent experience. |

Hey, Tthagen1,
I got Restylane along my nasal labia lines and Botox in the forehead yesterday, because I am going to a family reunion on June 10th (and I want to look better than my husband's first-wife, whom I am sure is taking similar measures at this time! ).
I can report that 24 hours after the injections I still have a little swelling and a couple of bruise spots on my cheeks about the diameter of a baby pea. Most injection points have left no mark at all.
I am very happy with the result so far, and I am confident that my face will be in great shape in two weeks time!

Hi Bee,
just noticed in one of your posts that u got botox in you forhead and restylane for ur nasolabial folds. I just on saturday went for the consoltation for both. I am not afraid of the restylane just the botox. I am 28 but due to genetics i have quite dry skin so i feel i have more wrinkles than most at my age. How did the botox turn out?? i am looking to achieve a lift to the brow also as i have heavyish lids. The Dr said i would need two areas done - between the eyebrows (even though i dont have a line between them) and then injections for the horizontal lines. How did u overcome the fear of the botox??? i am just afraid of the droopy eyelid thing. Are u still please with the restylane also??

In order for me to receive fillers like botox and restylane for less than half price, I go to training courses where I am a model for the class there.
The course I do the modelling at is board certified and they are all fully qualified and professional and they train people how to inject the fillers and I have never had a problem.
Email me if you would like to find out more about this.
Regards,
Ms Indiana |

Been there done it. Lasted 4 weeks. Waste of money and time. Non lasting.
That's the same with all fillers, they dont last in me at all. They do fill, no pain ect, but just don't last. |

When it comes to injectibles and botox, skill is MOST of the result. I would not use myself as a training tool, even though the cost factor does make it tempting for some. Unless it is the teachers that are leading the training session doing the injecting, rather than the students, not worth the risk IMO. |

I have a dog bite scar that created a small pea size pocket of skin on my upper lip. Surgery may help reduce its size but the doctor recommended restylane treatment. Because my lips are thin, he suggests putting restalyne in the lip area not effected by the scar, so it would increase in size and hopefully match the size of the scar, thus deminishing the scar size. How does this sound? I read somewhere there was bruising? Need opinions, thanks. |

I have wanted to do the botox, and other fillers but I am chicken.
This is slightly off topic but still about facial injections. I recall watching an episode of Oprah, maybe a year ago. It was on cosmetic enhancements. One of her male staffers was one of the "guests". Maybe his name was Reggie?? Not sure, but that is in the back of my mind. Anyway, He was probably in his late 50's early 60's?? He had bags right under his eyes, and then also under the bags, and above his cheeks, he had a sinking in. So, this doctor (cant remember who, but wish I could) said that instead of removing the bulge, he could "remove some fat from somewhere on this man's body, and then RE inject it into the hollows on his under his under eye bulges. Thereby plumping up the hollow, and meeting his cheeks. that it would give him a rested look, more youthful look, and yet you wouldn't look at him and say, he had "work" done. (Now, the fat may have been sucked out and processed prior to taping, as I recall. But on the show, the man had it done during the taping, and the results were AMAZING, he looked 10 years younger! The better part was, it was his own fat, so NO risk of rejection. And it would last a very long time, as opposed to 6 months. Not sure if this method could be used on other areas of the body or not. ANYONE remember this episode??
I had intended to take the info down to look into it further and forgot to do so. Anyone else recall this, and if so, do you know what the process is called. I have searched the internet and cant find it. Hmmm...
I guess I could check Oprah's website. I will post back if I find anything. |

I did see that episode with Reggie! I wish I could remember what that procedure is called. I have read about that being done also on makemeheal. It is supposed to last a looonnnggggg time until your body eventually reabsorbs it. It is mainly done under an anesthesia while having other procedures done at the same time, probably because of the lipo part. At least I know I would want it done that way. |
