I know your playing with me ariesxtreme and that's OK Very Happy , but, check out Julie Christie as the character "Laura" in Doctor Zhivago which is an intensely good movie! The acting was superb in the extreme.

Okay, thinking of Dr. Zhivago helps me narrow my very very very long list -- I love it and almost all of David Lean's films: "Lawrence of Arabia", "Ryan's Daughter", "Bridge on the River Kwai", "Summertime", "Hobson's Choice".

And I couldn't agree more about Julie Christie -- she was stunning in Dr. Zhivago.

I loved Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif in Lawrence of Arabia and loved Omar as well in "Funny Girl". Loved Peter in "Lion in Winter", "Ruling Class" and "Goodbye Mr. Chips".

When I was very young, Gregory Peck was my favorite actor. He was great with Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday" and I loved him in a rare bad boy role with Jennifer Jones, "Duel in the Sun".

I loved Audrey in "My Fair Lady", "Funny Face", "Nun's Story", "Sabrina", "Two for the Road" and of course "BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY"S"!!!!

More recently, I love Martin Scorsese's "The Departed", "Goodfellas", "Casino", "King of Comedy", "After Hours", "Raging Bull", "Taxi Driver", but most of all "Gangs of New York" and "Age of Innocence". Daniel Day Lewis is a favorite -- he's simply awesome!

I love "The Golden Bowl" -- Uma Thurman and Jeremy Northam are hot in that one (love him in "Emma" and "The Winslow Boy" too), and I love Nick Nolte. "A Room With A View" is another favorite Merchant-Ivory film.

I love "Master and Commander" and think Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany et al are superb. What a great yarn!!!

I love "Napoleon Dynamite" so much that someone gave me a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt.

And I love Helen Mirren -- Prime Suspect of course but also in "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", "Pascali's Island", "Last Orders", "Where Angels Fear to Tread" and on and on -- she makes any film better.

I love Uma -- a true Hollywood goddess -- in ""Pulp Fiction", "Sweet and Lowdown" (Sean Penn and Samantha Morton were awesome in that), "Dangerous Liaisons", "Jennifer 8", and "Prime".

I've only just started... you may be sorry you asked, Cherisse!

Just off the top of my head:

Movies: (these are all fairly recent)
The Princess Bride (My all-time favorite - I have this in my collection! This movie has everything. Cary Elwes in all-black - yummy! "Mawwiage ..." "Have fun storming the castle!" "My name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" I actually named my female Samoyed 'Buttercup,' which reminds me ... down Venice Boulevard there is a furniture store, E.W. Buttercup (or something like that) and their sign out front says "As you wish"! *Sigh!*)
Shawshank Redemption (Simply amazing)
Babe (*Sigh!* I also have this in my collection)
Borat (OMG! The fight scene between Borat and his manager will go down in cinematic history as the most hilarious, train-wreck of a scene ... you just can't look away!)
All 3 Lord of the Rings (These are also in my collection)
Forest Gump
Green Mile
Both of the Pirates of the Carribean films (and, I'm sure, the upcoming one as well)
and many, many others ...

Actors:
Tom Hanks
Tim Robbins
Daniel Craig (especially in "Casino Royale" - hurt me!)
Daniel Day Lewis (Absolutely amazing in "My Left Foot")
Johhny Depp
Ben Stiller
And even though I now hate him immensely, Brad Pitt, specifically in "Troy" (Crappy movie, but he was IMHO the most perfectly beautiful, amazingly gorgeous example of a male specimen in the entire history of homo sapiens sapiens in this film, and he wasn't too bad in "Legends of the Fall," either!)

Actresses:
Susan Sarandon
Meryl Streep (She can do anything!)
Gwyneth Paltrow (Absolutely deserved that Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love")
Uma Therman
Julianne Moore
Cate Blanchett
Charlize Theron (Scary awesome in "Monster")
Angelica Huston

How could I forget "The Godfather I and II"??? Arguably the best films ever made!!!

And I love Cary Grant and Bette Davis too. "All About Eve" and "Now Voyager" -- and even the scary films of her old age showed what a fearless talent Bette possessed. "To Catch a Thief", "North by Northwest", "An Affair to Remember" -- Cary was in a class of his own.

I love "The Green Mile" and "Shawshank Redemption" (not sure but I think Stephen King did the screenplays).

I forgot to mention one of my current favs -- Johnny Depp!!! How could I -- he makes it looks so easy and I love the quirkiness of the films he chooses.

I also love "Saving Private Ryan" as well as the somewhat similar production of "Band of Brothers" on HBO.

And I'm glad you mentioned "Ben Hur" sportygirl -- I watch it every time it's on TV! It's one of the all-time great films and maybe still holds the record for most Oscars received (not sure).

I also love "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and "The English Patient" -- Kristen Scott Thomas is so very fine. I love Ralph Fiennes in it as well as in "Quiz Show" and "Oscar and Lucinda". Cate Blanchett can do anything and I love Toni Colette -- she's awesome in everything including a little-known film called "Japanese Story".

Gotta stop (for now).

Honestly, I think The Last Samurai has become my all time favorite now. I used to enjoy Tom Cruise back in the day (Top Gun, Days of Thunder), but not since he went psycho. However, he does well in this movie.

BUT, Ken Watanabe, as the Head Samurai is just stunningly good! He does an awesome job! If anyone wants to know how the Japanese culture can help you find peace, harmony, strength and purpose in your life, this IS the movie to watch! I don't get "emotional" over much of anything, BUT, when the Samurai are defeated in the last battle it essentially brings an end the Samurai Culture and Lifestyle, and that was truly sad.

When I visited Kyoto, Japan last October, I actually walked up the huge steps that are in one of the first Japanese scenes in the movie. Although the Tokugawa Shogun's castle is in Kyoto, these steps lead to a Buddhist Temple and not to the Shogun. But it was awesome to see as is all of Japan!

Ken Watanabe is starring in the latest Clint Eastwood directed World War II movie as a Japanese General that is coming out soon. I think I'm going to see it just to see the job that Ken does as a performer.

John

Movies
Shawshank Redemption (nice to see it's so popular here)

Some Like it Hot (love Marilyn and Tony Curtis as Cary Grant), seen it sooooo many times but STILL crack up when Tony Curtis tries to con Marilyn that he's a tycoon and says he owns a company and picks up a shell on the beach and she says 'SHELL OIL'? in amazement, (probably one of Marilyn's most classic lines)

The Godfather series (for Al Pacino)

Bowfinger (soooooooo funny!)

Thelma and Louise

Legends of the Fall (Brad Pitt looked so scrummy in that, the scenery was fantastic and I would have gone mad not having him as well!)

Silence of the Lambs - first time I watched it was at home and I was on my own, it got to the really gripping bit where Jodie Foster was in the house in the pitch black tracking down the serial killer and my phone rang. I nearly had a heart attack!

Pretty Woman - everyone loves a happy ending

Fave Actors
Tom Hanks
Al Pacino
Johnny Depp
Robert De Niro
