My son's bday party is tomorrow. I am coming up with only two lame games. One is Tell-it-like-it-isn't (from the cub scout handbook), and another is the musical chair. Yeah, I'm not a creative mom. What more can I say? So any creative moms/dads out there to help me out? There'll be 5 boys at this party. I don't want them to just play a PS2 game all through the two hour long party. |

Sorry, Chrissie, I forgot to mention he's turning 7 on Sunday. He's in 1st grade. |

Scavenger hunts were always fun, along with whacking the Barney pinata! |

There were 2 games always played when my son was young and kids loved them.
1. Blowing Ping Pong Ball: Divide all kids in 2 groups (You can divide kids to more groups if there are too many.) and use a thin string to divide your table into two parts. Put ping pong ball at the center of the table, having each group of kids standing at either side of the table and blow the ping pong ball. The group who blow the ping pong ball out of the table from the other group's side won.
2. Put a HUGE bubble gum in cup cake's cup (paper one, not the aluminum one, no cake) and put lots of whipped cream on top to cover the bubble gum. Each kid get one of the whipped cream covered gum cup. All kids need to put their hands behind their back and try to eat the bubble gum. Whoever blow a bubble first won.
I would buy lots of prizes and number them. I made a umbrella shaped top with strings connected to different number. Kid pulls the string and the number come dowm. And from the number they can claim their prize. Some of the prizes were silly. Once I bought a Hello Kitty keychain and a boy got it. Other kids just laughed and laughed. Few hours later that boy's mom came to pick him up, he gave the keychain to his mom and said "Mom, it's for you, I love you." Then a hug and a kiss. |

We played "pin the tail on the donkey" at my son's birthday party. You could always make something like this using any poster that you have at home (pin on nose, etc)
Another idea is a memory game. Put a bunch of small things on a tray (toys, keys, silverware, etc) and then show it to them for a 1-2 minutes and whoever can write down the most things wins. |

Thank you for your great suggestions! I feel much better now. That should keep them occupied for a couple of hours.
MAcrisis, the story about the hello kitty keychain is adorable. |

Hi bkkgirl,
Gee ... I wish there had been forums when my son was little [he's 30 now ...]!
There ae some great ideas posted here! I could never come up with anything for my son's birthday parties ... so I would end up taking all the little kiddies to Chuckee Cheese!
Ah well ... they loved it ... and it kept them busy! It also kept our place from getting messed up!

Party is over! Phew!!! Only 5 boys, so easy to manage. They didn't want to play any game, except for shooting with toy guns. They also just wanted to play PS2. Oh well, it's done. Thanks for all the ideas. I really appreciated them. |
