I have some acne scarring and discoloration that I would love to get rid of. My question--what has been your experiences with in-home kits versus going to a derm or spa? I have tried both in the (far) past and found that the derm's office was effective but sometimes expensive. I have not tried too many in-home kits (tried Epidermix sample), but things must have changed since I last tried it 5 years ago. I have very tough skin, oily, just a few fine lines on my forehead, but mainly want to work on some acne scars and discoloration. |

Good question. I have tried both. Here is my honest opinion.
I prefer the professional kind, and the reason is the effect on my skin is, believe it or not, gentler. I used to use DermaNu (did i get the name right? you know that wand that vibrates and you put the microderm cream on it?), and i found that my skin had a terrible reaction to it. A facialist told me i was inadvertently stripping my skin of its natural ceramide by over exfoliating.
When i have a professional microderm, my skin always glows, pores shrink, scars are minimized, etc. I feel like a new me afterward.
I am lucky in that i have a friend who works in a reputable clinic, and gives me professional microderms after hours at a fraction of the cost, so i have stuck with this, and have now had about 7 professional microderms, and would never go back to store-bought.
Try looking for sales and deals in some reputable salons. A lot of places offer packages or discounts. Perhaps you and a friend could split a package. You'll like the results!

Oh, I wish I had a friend myself. But it looks like I will try the professional way first. I would just hate to do something incorrect to my skin. Thanks. |
