Hi Everyone. This is more of a journal then a question, but it might be comforting for some of you out there.
If any of you have read my post about "Is this supposed to happen with cleansing oils," you will know that I had a really really bad reaction to MAC's Cleanse Off Oil: bumps, seriously dehdrated, flakey skin. I am a really bad picker (a compulsive one, actually) so my face became an utter mess. I know picking is really bad and I've been trying to fight this demon for a while but I continue to pick to the point where my skin becomes very irritated, broken, and sore. Sigh...I'm so sick of myself.
I have been on several prescription medications in the past, including accutane, because the cysts on my chin just wouldn't go ago. Accutane "cured" my acne for an entire year and I had absolutely flawless skin. Over the last few years, however, my skin has been a complete mess and my picking has definitely contributed to that mess. I recently switched derms. and he prescribed minocycline to me. Our plan is to calm my skin down to the point where I stop picking/demolishing my skin and then decide if a second round of accutane is needed. I am on my second week of mino and I had a small initial breakout. With the MAC Cleanse Off Oil irritation/breakout and my inital breakout with mino, I am a very depressed puppy.
Anyways, does anyone on this forum take oral antibiotics to treat acne? What skincare are you currently using?
Cheers and I'll keep everyone posted on how things go--if you're interest, that is. |

I have no help really but I am an obsessive picker too with flaky oily sensitive skin!! lol Just trying to make you feel not so bad about it. I am totally OC about picking. I will do it for hours... very bad stuff. So don't feel alone. |

Hi LL - I've just come back from my doctor who has prescribed me minocycline as well. Just taken my first one and came on here to see if anyone else has had results with it.
Here's hoping!

After going backwards and forwards to the doctors for 14 YEARS now (since I was 13) I am now on erythromycin orally topically. The topical solution has just been introduced and I'm not convinced of its effectiveness. I have been under the care of a dermatologist since september with a view to starting roaccutane. However, because my skin was a bit better following the oral antibiotics I'm not a candidate for roaccutane at the moment (despite the clear up of my skin being superficial and having a huge breakout 2 days after seeing the derm). I have been on all possible antibiotics at various stages over the years, I'm back on them now as I'm on a different contraceptive pill and it was thought this combination may be more effective. I'm not sure. I still have oily skin, loads of blackheads, breakouts and scarring. Going back to see the derm in july so I'll see what he says. At the moment I'm using Jurlique skincare that I bought whilst in Oz but once it's finished I'd like to try Decelor. The saga of me and my skin is an ongoing battle.... |

I thought this thread was lost in oblivion. Thanks for bringing it back.
My skin has not improved since taking the mino. I take one 50 MG pill a day, so my dose is quite low. My negative reaction from the Clease Off Oil has still not totally cleared up and I'm dealing with A LOT of scars and pigmintation. I hate it.
I haven't had any breakouts, but I continue to fight white heads and bumps every day...plus all my scarring. I'll keep everyone posted on how things go.

i'm sure someone else can corroborate this, but cp's really helped me with my pigmentation. have you ever tried copper peptides? maybe this will be worth a look-see, as they're relatively inexpensive and (other than the "uglies," which reportedly go away) don't seem to have any irreversible negative effects. |
