I love this article. It makes sense. I hope someone else likes it, too.

By the way, I'm the middle child, and the article is right on about how I am -- always catering to people....it can get annoying.

[quote] Last-born children are typically charmers. They tend to be sociable, fun, entertaining, and affectionate. They’ve mastered fitting in with a range of personalities. However, their drawbacks are a propensity for shirking responsibility and expecting others to pick up the slack. [quote]

hmmm, only the part about shirking responsibilties and expecting others to pick up the slack is a little true for me...even tho i can be fun and sociable etc, i prefer to be grumpy cos i got bad skin! so til my skin clears up and is baby smooth, i will not be entertaining anyone! Laughing

I loved reading this - it's been an interest of mine in a way ever since I did personality profiling at work, and personality profiles have also been linked to order of birth. I'm the oldest of four girls, and TOTALLY the other mother!! My sister is a perfect example of the middle child - social yet "hard done by" as everyone else if parents favourite! Laughing And third sister (who really was the youngest for many years) couldnt care less about what people think or tell her what she should do, and she ALWAYS falls on her feet and never stresses!

I ended up with a middle-child which is interesting as this article doesnt really talk about this pairing.

Thanks so much for posting - I'm going to send this on (to said sisters, to explain my controlling behaviour and why I had to put middle childs woodwork project in the fire when she wouldnt do the dishes... Laughing )

I'm the youngest and my only sister is the oldest.

Her profile would fit me much better and mine would fit her better.

I tend to look at these things like the horoscopes in the newspaper. Rolling Eyes Laughing

So, who makes the best match based on birth order? In general, Leman says, first-borns and only children fare best with last-borns as their romantic partner. A “baby” can show a first-born how to enjoy the moment, instead of plotting the future or worrying obsessively about the present. Meanwhile, a first-born offers a youngest child a sense of purpose and structure.

My husband is the first born of seven and I the baby of four. Our relationship has worked out nicely for 40 years. Wink

Melissa, I remember reading an article about this in a magazine at a doctor's office before, and that article said that a middle child could marry either a 1st born, or the baby or another middle child because the middle child is used to catering to everyone and familiar with how to deal with all ranges of personalities.

You're welcome. I am glad I found this article online as I was interested in the article I read in the magazine.
