This review is for Dr. Dan's CortiBalm for severely dry lips. The website is here:
http://www.drdanslipbalm.com/
I am currently on a brief, low-dosage round of Accutane, but I still began getting that typical Accutane side effect - horribly dry lips. Lips that go beyond dry or chapped, to that hideous peeling and bleeding stage. Just disgusting. My dermatologist gave me a tube of Dr. Dan's CortiBalm, which is what she recommends to all her Accutane patients.
MIRACLE CURE. It sounds like an exaggeration, but I had truly disgusting lips, and they literally began healing overnight. The skin around the lips is healing normally, but the lips themselves are pretty much in tip-top shape after a week. Apparently, this is because the balm contains hydrocortisone. For that reason, you are also ONLY supposed to use this when your lips are severely chapped. It is not an everyday, moisturizing lip balm. It is a healing treatment. They recommended I use it during the day, and use a regular moisturizing lip balm at night, so as not to overdo it. And they only recommended continued use since my lips will remain continuously dry due to the Accutane. I don't know specifically what happens if you use it regularly, or the best way to maintain the results. I suppose it's all a matter of trial and error. But for those battling severely chapped lips, I can't rave about this product enough.
I believe you can buy it at the product website above for $9 plus shipping. Dermstore (I believe, or something similar, just google the product) carries it for cheaper per tube but you have to buy a pack of 3. I read on acne.com - where this product also has raves, which I discovered when I googled it - that you can ask your pharmacy to order it for you, so perhaps get it cheaper, or at least avoid paying shipping. Pricey for a regular chapstick - which is what the tube looks like - but a downright steal for a lip treatment.
Ingredients (from the label):
Active Ingredients - Hydrocotisone 1.0%
Inactive Ingredients - Beeswax, Petroleum Jelly, Mineral Oil |
