Inspired by Katee and Candy's Eye Serums. Here's the recipe for my concoction for the face.
All the ingredients came from the Skin Actives Scientific website:
4 ozs of Seakelp Bioferment
0.5 oz of Marine Nutrient Serum - Hydrophilic moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, contains distilled water, sea kelp bioferment, sodium PCA, alpha bisabolol (natural), coconut endosperm, natural active peptides, sodium hyaluronate, guaizulene, Germaben II.
Dermagen - help replenish dermal macromolecules Natural Matrixyl with hyalauronic acid
Beta Glucan (1 teaspoon) - Modulate immune system
Green Tea Extract with EGCG (1 teaspoon)- Antioxidant
Grape Seed Proanthocyanidins (1 teaspoon)- Hydrophilic Antioxidant
Anti-Oxidant Booster (8 drops) - protect skin lipids & membranes, contains Pomegranate seed oil, rosehip seed oil, alpha-D-tocopherol (vitamin E), lycopene, tocotrienols, astaxanthin, lutein, alpha lipoic acid, ascorbyl palmitate.
Cucumber-Melon Fragrance (can be replaced by few drops of favorite essential oils)
I ended up with a pretty thick serum in an orange/salmon colour. I think the product can last me for more than 6 months (I am sending a small portion to my BFF to try). Amazingly, it didn't turn my face orange. No residual colour at all. More amazingly, the formula did not flake I was really worried about that. The formula is a little bit sticky when first applied but my skin just soak it in and it leaves me with very smooth skin. I have yet to use it long enough to comment on its antioxidant and improving immune system claims. But, I love it already |

Thank you nyonyakay,
You introduced me to Beta Glucan! This is the first time I try making something other than mixing oils, masks and scrubs. I am happy that it didn't turn out to be a disaster |

I forgot to say that I use it just like every other serum. After toner and before moisturizers. The serum itself is definitely not moisturizing enough in the winter. |

I had been using the complex at night (to alternate with my PSF retinol 1.0) but today I decided to use it the morning after my Vivier 20% C-serum. (SAS suggested applying Beta Glucan twice a day). WOW, the tightening effect of the serum is slightly less than using it without C-serum. It absorbed very well. I have to say that I prefer my own concoction than IS Clinical's HydraCool. I never felt a need for hydracool even after Active Serum (my skin is pretty tough). It is also less sticky than HydraCool. I am in love anyway
One thing I would change in the future though, I would not have added the whole tube of fragrance. Less is more when it comes to scent. |
