I use seabuckthorn berry oil in both my Pearlfection mattifying cream & moisturizing cream. |

Thanks Kim.
In which percentage do you add it to the creams ? |

I'd stick to 1-2% since it is very bright orange & can stain the skin. It doesn't take much to get the benefits from it. |

I also have some seabuckthorn oil, and most sites suggest using only at a rate of 1-2% because of potential for irritation? It is supposed to be very beneficial for treating rosacea, but I did not use for long enough to experience any results. |

Miranets, did you have irritations with the seabuckt. oil ? I'm a bit scared now that it's orange (the company I'm buying from says it's "yellow"...)
thanks,

Good morning!
The Seabuckthorn BERRY Oil is a dark orange
and will stain the skin if too much is used.
It is a very nice oil though.
The Seabuckthorn SEED Oil is a translucent yellow and will not stain the skin.
Both are available c02 extracted and the BERRY
is also available cold pressed.
Just helping to clear it up..

Hiya
The type I have is dark orange, a CO2 extract, so from the berries?
I used 2 drops in my palm mixed with a large amount of regular face oil, so that would make it almost a 10% concentration. I did not experience any irritation. I have gone off all oils, so I didn't use it long enough to experience any long term effects. |

After I stopped using acid/alcohol based skin care (clinique, clearasil, etc etc) I switched to the likes of Dr hauschka/Decleor and found it to be great to balance the skin but I had endless blocked pores. Then I switched to Zenbiotic which is completely oil free and my skin seems to love it and I don't suffer any oil imbalances in my skin. I do occasionally turn to Dr H creams and the ZB Moisture Enrich which is oil based (very minute quantites). |

How are you liking the Seabuckthorn berry oil? I just love Newdirection's pomegranate seed oil so much (WOW) I might get some of that too. Is it making you orange though? |

Molly, I've been using the seabuckthorn oil 1-2 drops with 1-2 drops of rosehip seed oil at night after pearl cream b/c I need the extra oomph, but I only use it every other night. No it does not turn your skin orange, thank god b/c I do like the effects. My skin is very smooth and clear in the morning. see ya later, |

Huh, I try - but some chemists could chime in to help/correct me.
In the usual practise they use
1. steam-destillation
or
2. solvent-extraction
for getting EO from plant material.
Steam-dstillation requires high temperatures around 150°F and higher, which could destroy precious and useful ingredients of the plant.
With classical solvents (hexan, etc.) you might have residues of the solvent in your EO.
With CO²-extraction they use CO² as solvent (CO² is a gas but under pressure gets properties as a liquid) - this process requires temperatures under 100°F only. So, the EO yielded by CO²-extraction will give you a pure high quality oil with no residues of solvent or altered by temperature. |

Hi Molly,
Yes, in the meantime I added the seabuckthorn - 5 drops to my mix, mentioned in my another EO thread. After "excessive" shaking in a small vial the mix is quite homogenic, rather thin, of pale orange colour. It has absolutely no color on the skin, no stain, nothing. It's pleasant and nice, I'm still excited.
This EO-therapy makes my pores smaller. You know I was afraid that the plants are going to irritate my skin - but it's quite the opposite actually : it looks rather relaxed. I still use it p.m. only. It absorbs nicely and quickly - in the morning I wake up without oily shine/feel. I'm overall happy (to your surprise , huh ??? ;-) )

p.s. I too very much like the pomegranate oil - you could also check out the rice bran oil, another favorite of mine |

cora-lu:
I am not expert on oil. I bought it from Garden of Wisdom. I think you can use it straight or mix it with other oil. There are good information of benefit and how to use this oil on these website like gardenofwisdom, naturesgift, mountainroseherbs, and from this forum friends.
I like it very much, especially during this dry winter time.
Good Luck. |
