What do people feel are the value of regular facials in comparison to products for good quality products for various facial issues. I am in a bad mood this evening looking at my skin thinking that it looks rather mottled and the textures is yucky. Does anyone else feel that they have many problems and aren't sure what to address? Sorry for such a long post...um in conclusion...facials: good or not worth it? |

I was having some problems with my skin but I was only using Wal-mart specials on my face, so it's no surprise. Then I went for a facial and she said I was using all the wrong products, that I was drying out my skin. It would get oily and then I would have breakouts. She started me on Dr Renaud products and I went for a facial every 4-6 weeks for about a year. My skin improved drastically and I assumed it was because of the facials. But then I had a baby and I haven't been out for about 6 months now and my skin still looks good, so I am attributing it to the products, not the facials. I still plan on having a facial 2-3 times a year though because I think the extraction really helps the complexion. |

It's hard to answer. I seldom have a facial. I think my daily routine works pretty well. But when I have some skin problem that my daily routine or even some new product for daily use can not solve, I will go to a facial. |

Hi there,.
I have a Decleor facial every month, it also includes a back and neck massage. The day after my skin looks great and I feel very relaxed, but it is also about 'Me Time'.I am quite a stressed out person so this is just part of my life.
Love it !!!! |

to me i think daily routine cleaning is more important that facial. if you have maintain your skin or take good care of it daily then you only need to go to a salon for facial say 1x every month or every 2 months.
i would rather invest in a set of good skincare products rather then sign up for an expensive facial package @ the facial salon. |

I think a facial is more for deep cleansing whereas daily skin care routine is to maintain your skin? For me a facial is only a once in a while event, when I feel my skin is clogged up and need pro help or when I need to relax and distress |

I do like going for facial coz it leave my face squeaky clean after 1 session. I like that they remove my blackheads and try get remove my millia seeds and pimples... but daily routine is also very important! I realize scrubbing every other day helps to keep the blackheads at bay, so I wouldn't have to endure painful session everytime I go for facial. |

IMO the significant components of a facial are:
being touched
possibly massaged
feeling pampered, attended to, cared for, depending on the person
extraction
whatever fancy device that might be used on you, like a galvanic device, or some analogue of a Dermawand, or even a brief UV-exposure device -- anything that you yourself do not have/use at home
The goops are the smallest consideration of all (unless it's the facialist or salon's secret formula)-- anyone can put goop on their face.
It's a matter of how much you value each specific component. I may have missed something on my list, especially something that someone else really values... |

If you're skin gets stressed (too little sleep, stress, not drinking enough water etc) then a facial is marvellous for hydrating the skin again and bringing it back to normal. Also, for me the relaxation alone is worth it, but, (depending on the type of facial), never have more than one or two a month as too many can overwhelm the skin |

I think that the products you use are more important than facials.
I went for a facial a week ago, and I hadn't had one in years- my skin looked pretty much the same after the facial.
I think as long as your using good products, you can do your own facial steaming and masks at home. |

I think if you've never had a facial you need to go see what you're missing. I know the first time I had a facial the esthician told me all kinds of things about myself that I didn't know! Armed with this knowledge, I know what I should and should not be using on my skin... which lets me go in for facials only when I want to be totally pampered, because I have far fewer skin problems! |

Speaking of facials, are there extracting versus non-extracting kind of facials? I'm also kind of wary people selling me products, not sure if they just want to make a quick buck. |

I've only had one professional facial (new year & birthday gift for myself this January). I had microdermabrasion with it as I was interested in it and the aesthetician agreed it would be good for my face. The info from a skin care professional I received was worth it in itself, like Harmonster posted. I learned what I was doing "wrong" - glycolics, scrubs, and masks that dry on the face are too tough and drying on my face and that I need to focus on HYDRATING. Since making changes based on those recommendations, my skin has seen major improvement. For instance, I use manual exfoliation versus chemical now and I've become recommitted to taking the time to use my Clarisonic every day.
I had a great experience with this aesthetician. Unfortunately, she's not local to me - I was visiting friends for the holidays. If you are concerned about "hard sell" staff, ask around - friends, co-workers, maybe even call places and ask outright. This aesthetician didn't push products at all - she just told me what of the line she carried would be best for my face. Even without pressure, I bought one moisturizer from her. While it turned out to be a fine product, I can find something similar for less now that I know what's good for my skin. |

I think it is really important to find a good aesthetician. I had bad experience where they just try to sell the products to you. |

facial is good but coupled with a daily routine....that will be the best. Facial done once a month if you just require maintenance would suffice. However, if you feel that thats not enough then perhaps facial once every 2 weeks helps. ( some folks like myself have oily skin condition and clog pores so i find that going for facials every two weeks helps)
However, it will a;sp be helpful to remember that you are what you eat... so eat healthily, drink more water and take your vitamins regularly and over time you will feel good and notice that even the skin condition improves. Sleep more too! |
