I'm so very confused with my skincare routine... well I don't even know if I have one right now...
my skin is going out of control... dry/dehydrated (don'tknow the difference) and I haven't had clear skin since september!
I need a new regime!!
I want:
a nice mild cleanser for me to use in the morning
a cleansing cream/lotion to remove makeup
a moisterizer for combination acne prone skin
and perhaps a toner...
I tend to favor natural products like psf (i've used many of their products before... but i think i need to shock my skin a little, maybe its getting bored)
any suggestions for good natural products? i don't want to spend too much $$ price range like psf/john masters is about right...
thanks! |

some suggestions to get you started
these are very simple, no-frills, cost effective products...
cleanser:
rosehipseed cleanser or wheatgerm cleanser
both contain NO detergents, and have a 5.5 ph
makeup removal: jojoba oil to remove make up, followed by one of the above cleansers.
moisturizer: emu oil (many seem to like jojoba here - imho nothing beats emu)
no toner will be needed, because your cleanser doesn't have a high ph.
you may want to use an occasional bha (exfol or other 2%) for cleaning pores.
out of curiosity, which products have you tried that you were disappointed in? |

I suggest I Feel Pretty (www.ifeelprettyproducts.com)
Kim (the owner) is really good about recommending products and her products are effective and very well-priced (even with international shipping costs ).
I suggest her gentle cleanser for the morning. At night I first use my own castor oil/sweet almond oil OCM mixture to wipe off make up and then use IPF cleanser to wash it off.
She has a number of moisturising oils and I think her clarifying one might work for you. I am using her Healing Serum (a spot treatment) and it is definitely does not break me out and is not too oily even on my forehead.
Plus she has BHA/AHA products, pearl creme and more. I haven't tried those but I am going to very soon. |

(for some reason, I can't edit my posts)
want to add - tho, I've never tried the products recommended by cuppre -
they seem to fall into the same
no-nonsense, cost- effective products that work category.
definitely worth a look-see.
I'm pretty sure you can order samples from ifeelpretty.
you can get samples of the products i've rec. above from either dianayvonne, or (I think) skincarecentral.
good luck |

aprilha -- Maybe not be exactly what you're looking for, but I found Dr. Leslie Baumann's book "The Skin Type Solution" a very helpful place to start. After going through a questionnaire, you can see which of 16 skin types you belong to. She then has a recommended regimen (with a variety of product suggestions low end and high end) for that particular skin type. It didn't look to me like she had that many "natural" recommendations, but she always included ingredients to look for and to avoid, so that you can pick your own products with intelligence. HTH |

As far as the toner, I would use Vit C drops. I use obagi profession V Surum 20% and I love it! It also leaves my skin very fresh feeling.
Emu oil at night, is gorgeous. Heavy, but it penetrates beautifully and you wake up with a really smooth, soft texture. Many here use it and love it.
I use MD Forte cleanser, but it's strong and since you want a mild one, not sure if I would recomend it, although there is a milder one. I forget what level is the mildest. I use level 2, it's strong.
I use Jan Marini sunscreen which I love. It's very silky on the skin and penetrates well.
Also, let us know what skin type you have. |

I have combination/acne-prone skin type
thanks for all your replies...
i've tried to go the extremely basic natural side of skin care (ocm, facial oil etc) but i didnt like how it made my skin feel... so im not thinking of going back...
I'm thinking of using products more like john masters, psf, (formulated natural skin care)
so i think i'll look into ifeelpretty!
thanks so much for all your suggestions...
if anyone here used john masters and likes/dislikes it for any reason feel free to share!! thanks! |

If you want a natural line and and uncompliated routine, I would suggest the Dr Hauschka routine. No fuss, no muss. Very easy routine to stick to and it has great results. I've been using the line for years and have no complaints. Love it, love it, love it! |

I too suffered a bit of purging around my chin and jaw line when I first started out with Dr H. The purging lasted for a few weeks, just shy of a month, but after a good 3 months of continued use I was amazed at how great my skin looked and felt. My skin is now flawless and I get compliments on it all the time. It's really worth the sacrifice in the beginning. |

Have you tried Jurlique? The DFS here has an intro package with small cleansing lotion, face wash cream, AHC lavender, rosewater and day care cream for $25 US. It would be an inexpensive way to give it a try. |

Nuxe honey gel cleanser is mild and said to be very good to use in the morning. And it is not expensive at all |

Do you have access to a shop with the intro package, or samples? DFS here also has samples, you have to ask but they do have them.
If you want the intro pack and you don't have a shop nearby I can run by DFS and see if they still have one that I could mail to you. Our DFS runs out of things fast so hopefully they still have them. PM me if you want me to check for you. |

Mario Badescu makes pretty good products. And if you're a Vancouverite, you can now get them at Beautymark, so you don't have to pay expensive shipping to purchase online. The enzyme gel cleanser works well. |

a nice mild cleanser for me to use in the morning = Cetaphil for sensitive skin
a cleansing cream = Jurlique Face Wash Cream or EP-II
a moisterizer for combination acne prone skin = Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel or NaturDerm Chrysalyx
and perhaps a toner = SK II Facial Essence (do not wipe it out like using traditional toners) |

i have dry/dehydrated skin too, especially worst in winter time.
what i'm currently doing and it's helping somewhat because i only have one or two very small dry spots and clean skin.
for cleansing:
jojoba oil (make up remover too)
burt's bees orange essence cream cleanser (dry skin)
i rotate between these two cleansing methods. i wipe my face with a warm washcloth.
toner:
i use rose water every other day
moisturizer:
just plain aloe vera gel (lily of the desert brand)
then i top that with juice organics spf 30 tinted moisturizer for sunscreen.
at night, after putting on aloe vera gel, i apply vasiline jelly to my dry spots and it's better in the morning.
that's my skincare regimen for now. |
