I thought I'd start a new thread on Janson-Beckett products because the existing ones are quite old and I'm not sure if anyone's reading them anymore.

In December 2006, I started using Alpha Derma CE, the facial Skin Prep and the Okusil Under Eye Serum. I'm almost out of these products now (by the time I'm done they will have lasted just a little over three months which is pretty good, considering!).

I've decided to replenish my stock and also try the skin wash and toner, and the DMAE Night Cream to see how it goes.

I'm reaching the point where I'm seriously considering getting some laser treatments, facial rejuvenation, and maybe a lift (though I'd like it to be non-invasive).

Has anyone had good recent experience with the JB products? Any disappointments?

I feel like my skin tone has improved quite a bit but I'm not noticing a huge difference in wrinkles, particularly the crows feet. Maybe it takes more time. Or maybe the effects have been subtle.

I'm really eager to hear opinions from older women (over 45). You youngsters (40 and under) won't have the same problems! :D

I'm a strong advocate of JB products for us mature ladies Very Happy I first learned about this line when I joined EDS and can honestly say their products are the first that I could actually see the results. I haven't used Okusil, but I'm using Skin Prep, CE, Day Cream and Night Cream. This line has not disappointed me. My skin is much firmer, "thicker", pores have shrunk considerably and I've achieved a better overall "glow". Now, I should also mention I'm using Vit C, exfoliating every 2 days with EpidermixII, using LightStim and Emu Oil which also contribute to my results, but I'd still never go without my JB products Very Happy As far as my wrinkles go, I can't say any of these products have gotten rid of them entirely, but they are diminished to a large extent and my skin is much healthier than ever.

Is this the JB brand? Or Cellex C?

I've heard about Emu oil but not tried this yet. Any particular brand you like?

Anya, I'm anxious to know also. I'm tempted to buy JB night cream as I tried the sample from EDS before. Also, read the review about emu oil as a miraculous product. I want something to make my pores less obvious and calm down my rather sensitive skin, but yet provide adequate moisture. Is emu oil a good choice?

After one year, I've finally used up my bottles of ADCE and Skin Prep and I'm now at that critical point of trying to decide if I should order some more or try something else.

I actually do like this ADCE/prep combination but I don't know if it's my HG and with all of the various raves on this board, it's hard not to want to try some other products.

Then of course, there's the other side of me that's afraid that if I stop using ADCE/prep that my skin is going to go to hell in a hand basket in a short matter of time...oh decisions, decisions...

Hi Lesley-Jane
I think JB is pretty good; it has some great anti-oxidants and it's gentle. I used it for long enough to see some results, but I think you're missing out on the real power house collagen stimulators like L-Ascorbic and retinoids (I prefer retinaldehyde) and maybe CPs.

If I were you I'd add one of those too. I'm only 43 so slip under your age requirement, but anyway...... Smile

Vikki - their C&C uses esters not l-ascorbic.

Well, it's hard to pinpoint...My skin looks really clear and has a nice texture and the ADCE/prep are products that have anti-aging actives that don't make my skin react negatively. So, I feel like it must be doing some good and even if I'm not seeing amazing results, it's not creating any problems either. I vary using it with Decleor products, Organic Rosehip Oil and Dottoressa Reynaldi creams as well. My fine lines look pretty descent but lately I've noticed deeper lines on the sides of my jaw that look like they could turn into a jowl if I don't try to take care of them soon. So, I might try to find something even more effective as a spot treatment for this.

Can you let me know what which brands of L-Ascorbic? I've used Retin A in the past (by prescription) and got huge results. I used it for five years to correct sun damage and it did an amazing job. I decided to stop using it because it does thin the skin over time. I've also used Cellex C, but not for a few years. I did try the JB C Serum but didn't notice any effect from it. I could try the Cellex C again, but am curious as to the experience of you all.

One thing I've been reading up on is Manuka Honey which has amazing anti-bacterial and healing properties (heals serious problems like burns, wounds, bed sores etc.). I've been using honey as a mask and really like the effect (it exfoliates and leaves the skin very clean and soft). I've also been reading about another honey-based product called Egyptian Magic which is supposed to be excellent for skin and hair. Apparently a lot of celebrities swear by it.

There's probably only so much creams can do. Eventually I may try laser treatments or a non-invasive lift.

I would say the new PSF C serum looks like a good one right now and it's on sale (www.psfskincare.com). I can't afford the real big brands like Skinceuticals, but I find others do a good job too like Cellularskinrx (sold here).

I wouldn't say Retin A thins the skin over time. It increases the thickness of the lower dermal layers with collagen/elastin etc. You're right it thins the corneal layer and that can be a problem because it makes you more sensitive to UV. A lot of us are using retinaldyde these days which is another kind of retinoid which is much gentler for a variety of reasons. I believe C & A are the really proven powerhouses myself.

Though I must say that I've given up Retinaldehyde myself because of sun sensitivity for the moment, but after a lot of research I will be adding it back into the mix but using less often - I was overdoing it.

You can have a read about retinaldehyde (used in Avene's products) in this ongoing thread
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=254650

I always like to slap in this photo which shows the thickened epidermis with long-term retinoid use, so at the risk of repeating myself.....

Skinmedica's a good C serum too
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/skinmedica-vitamin-c-comp-p_879.htm
It's particularly good for sensitive and/or oily
skin.
I find it too drying on my normal/dry face, but it's working wonders on my chest in terms of fixing sun damage

I apply the Emu Oil after my C Serum/JB products have penetrated. While I'm waiting on them to dry, I do my Facial Flex exercises and lastly my LightStim treatment. Whew! This trying to keep younger looking is sure hard work!! Shock

I use JB skin prep and ADCE, I really think it helps with fine lines. I've been using over a year now, and I use it every day. I use the night cream at night. I like all their products. They don't have a strong perfume smell that usually turns me off to a product. My skin absorbs this stuff like no other. I have reordered these products twice, and will continue to do so.

Wow, thanks for all the recommendations re C serums and retinol products and the information on Retin-A actually thickening skin (thanks, Molly). I didn't realize this.

Here's an interesting article from a dermatology/medical site on Vitamin C serums http://dermnetnz.org/treatments/vitamin-c.html
Particularly this paragraph:
Quote:
A correctly formulated topical vitamin C preparation is a difficult and costly process. Many formulations on the market are manufactured cheaply and are basically ineffective. The problems lies in the fact that vitamin C is most commonly found in the form L-ascorbic acid. This is highly unstable when exposed to oxygen, making it become useless. In addition, many of the currently available topical vitamin C preparations do not penetrate the skin sufficiently to make any difference. Research is currently underway to optimize a stable and effective topical vitamin C formulation.

If you are considering using a topical vitamin C preparation you should consult your pharmacist, doctor or dermatologist before starting, particularly if you are already using other vitamin supplements. They can help you determine which vitamins and in which form will be the most effective for you.

It looks like Cellex C has a higher concentration of L-ascorbic acid (@ 17%) than other brands that have (12%-15%), and perhaps this is why some women have found it more drying. But if this form is unstable and useless when exposed to oxygen, I wonder if it's worth putting out the money. Any thoughts on this?

The inventors of Botox happen to be in Vancouver (the Carruthers http://www.carruthers.net/ and on Monday I'll call their clinic to see if they have any recommendations. They probably sell products out of their clinic.

Regarding purchasing JB products. I don't know whether I should be mentioning this in this forum but buying direct from JB seems to be a good deal right now. They are offering a $25 discount on the DMAE Night Cream which brings the price down to $74 and the "anti-aging system" which includes
4oz Facial Skin Prep
4oz AlphaDerma CE
1oz OkuSil
4oz Cleansing Milk
4oz Skin Toner
is only $199. Skin prep and Alphaderma CE together alone cost almost that much. Shipping is free on orders over 150, so altogether it's a good deal. I guess I'll know when I see the exchange rate, though it shouldn't be bad because the Canadian dollar is worth more now.

Unfortunately there is a lot less research into the stable C-ester forms and from experience they don't seem to deliver as well as L-Ascorbic. Sure, the L-Ascorbic will degrade when it's exposed to air and mixed with water, but you need to use it quickly (6 weeks). You can see when it's oxidised because it turns yellow. Or you can use the new waterless, silicone based versions. I don't agree that you must have a really expensive L-Ascorbic to get something that delivers. A small company that knows what it is doing will also make a good product. We've had a zillion discussions about this if you have a search.
I think the most telling thing is that such a high proportion of the long-term, regular users here regard L-Ascorbic as a must have anti-aging item in their regimen.

Well.... I've been doing a lot of reading and have put these two items in my "cart" for future purchase (just ordered JB and am broke! for now)

Vivier Vitamin-C IDS™ High Potency Serum 20 (30 ml)
Cellex-C Hydra 5 B-Complex (30 ml)

The Hydra 5 B has rave reviews so I'm thinking it's probably like Skin Prep only better (?)

and the Vivier sounds like a good product. I've never used Vivier before.

I used the alpha derma CE when I was 21 and did not like it. I think it may of actually been detrimental to my overall elasticity.

Perhaps I was also too young to use the product.

21! At that age, you don't need anti-aging products. If it's any comfort, I very much doubt the ingredients would have had a negative impact on the elasticity of your skin. They simply don't have that kind of potency or power. Depending on what you were using, perhaps they were drying? I don't know how old you are now, but if you feel you've lost elasticity, the cause probably lies elsewhere. I started noticing a change in my skin between 32 and 35 years of age. It's all downhill from there! ;)

Most important: don't smoke and keep your intake of fresh fruits, veg, nuts, seeds, healthy oils, and healthy proteins up.

Btw, I'm pretty impressed with JB right now. I placed my order on Saturday (Mar 24) and UPS is delivering it tomorrow. Free delivery, too.

EDS is also excellent with delivery.

I like the vivier serums better than PSF and Skinceuticals. I can't even use Cellex-C.

Just have to report:

I received all my products from Janson Beckett less than three days after ordering them. AND...I still can't believe this but one of the pumps on the creams wasn't working so I phoned the company and asked if they could just send me another pump. They offered to replace the whole bottle, but I said, no, just send me a pump because there's nothing wrong otherwise. Guess what they did? They SENT ME A WHOLE NEW BOTTLE FREE OF CHARGE. So now I have two full bottles of night cream. That is outstanding service!

It's too early to say yet. I've only been using it since Tuesday.

I love the cleansing milk and the toner. Both smell very nice (light and pure) and they feel good going on.
