i live in nyc, so there are lots of good spas around, but i was hoping for some recs here. i only use organic products, so no matter how good the facialist is, that rules out a lot of places. based on products alone, for blemish prone skin, would you go to a spa that uses jurlique, dr. hauschka, decleor, yonka, or something else? and, if there's any place in particular that you would recommend, i would love to know! |

I don't think Yon-Ka is an organic skincare line. As for the rest I'm not 100% sure. I don't get facials myself. |

My sister likes Naturopathica's skin care. She tried some before and liked them very much. |

I just had a look at Naturopathica's website and their products looked really good. I'd really like to try them, so if anyone has tried it, please post some reviews! I have to say they're pricey though. 52 bucks for a cream cleanser! |

well, if you don't mind spending money, there's the Tracie Martyn salon in NYC. I think you'll get a fantastic facial but it may be more than you want to spend. |

Not exactly what you're looking for, but just want to share my thoughts.
I also prefer organic products for home care, but I had some good results from spas who are not using 100% organic. If they have good skills and enough knowledge, I don't think they need to use 100% organic for facial.
Just a FYI. Not NYC, but I tried spas using some products. What products work out for me is Nelly de vuyst, Christian Valmy, Valmont, Guinot and Darphin (spelling?). Guino and Darphine is relatively OK. Spas using Decleor or Yonka don't work for me. My skin type is combination skin, extremely oily on t-zone, dry on chin.
Good luck. |

I LOVE Naturopathica!! Their products are definitely on the pricey side, but all the ones I have tried have been amazing, with really pure ingredients, and smell great as well! I highly recommend the following:
Chamomile Cleansing Cream: Very gentle cleanser that is very calming to the skin; I got the 4 oz. bottle and use this in the AM. A little goes a long way.
Verbena Hand Softener: This is my HG hand lotion!! It is completely natural and the only thing I have ever used that has instantly left my hands super soft and moisturized all day, regardless of how many times I wash them. A little goes a VERY long way. Smells faintly of lemons.
Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: This is the best mask I've used for super soft, glowy skin. I like the purity of the ingredients (no parabens, etc.). A jar lasts me about 2-3 months, using it approximately twice weekly.
Lavender Hydrolat: Very calming to the face and a great toner/pick me up in the day
I've also tried the Thai Herbal Body Lotion, which sinks into the skin very quickly and is very moisturizing, but it has a lingering herbal scent that you may or may not like. I have a sample of the calming seaweed mask that I haven't tried yet.
My other HG cleanser is the Shizuka NY Foaming Cleanser, which has green tea, pearl protein, and rice bran moisturizers. I use this in the PM and two pumps cleanse my entire face perfectly, including taking off makeup. I can't post the link, but do a search for the Shizuka NY spa. |

how much do a spa or facial in NYC? |

I'm sure it varies widely, but I have only been to Shizuka for facials as I love the results I get there. The micro facial ($160) is great for extractions and generally making skin look flawless, and I love the IPL photofacials as well ($250-300). They really take their time and pamper you once inside...typical treatments last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
It does get pricey though so I finally caved in recently and got a Baby Quasar...it is not quite the same thing and doesn't give such amazing results as quickly as the photofacial, but it has been great for maintenance. |
