Chime in. Are you guilty of keeping something, just because - "Oh, I just might need/use/wear that again someday"?

You know, I used to be a HORRIBLE pack rat when I was younger. From the time I was a child 'til my early 20's I saved EVERYTHING. What cured me of this affliction? Moving out of my parent's house after graduating college and into a microscopic studio apartment! Laughing I just didn't have anywhere to store the boxes of notes, stuffed animals, clothes I never wore, etc...so away they went! And while I loooove gathering stuff...if I feel like I've got too much clutter, out comes the Goodwill bag. I always feel better clearing the space, and knowing that the stuff I don't use might be enjoyed by someone else.

What prompted this is reorganization of my bathroom. I cannot believe I have saved almost a dozen bottles of shampoo that are only 1/4-1/3 full. Shock

I did that a little while ago, too! Gathered up all the stuff I wasn't using...either tossed it, gave it away, or swapped it on MUA!

I use to be .....but due to a long story..and I won't bore everyone to tears on it...I am no longer...every year I do such a good clean out that I end up very pissed at myself for getting rid of something I DO END UP NEEDING....

now bathroom cabnet gets nuts and every 6 months or so I end up with a garbage bag full of stuff in it....

I use to never want to get rid of clothes. Either I still liked it but a "bit too tight", or, it's out of style but maybe it will come back.

During our move to where we are now I didn't have time to go thru stuff. It was a mad dash to get everything here and since we were both putting in 70 hour weeks with our 2 businesses I just threw stuff in boxes.

Well, it has been 2 years, my business was sold and I have finally gone through everything and am ready for a GIGANTIC garage sale.

This is my plan regarding clothes. Everytime I buy an item I WILL PUT AN OLD ITEM IN THE BAG FOR DONATION.

I used to be one but ever since we moved to a smaller space I got into the habit of recycling and donating. My DH still think I am one when it comes to skincare product Rolling Eyes

Short answer - definitely. Sure I'm not as bad as some (I don't collect toilets for example. LOL) But I'm bad enough that it sometimes annoys me. I'm working on this obsession though and am really starting to get rid of the clutter. I realized the need for this the first time I moved (and left a ton of stuff at my mother's home because it was too much to pack). LOL I'm one of those people that doesn't want to get rid of something because I might need or use it one day. For example, I always give away old clothes and items I no longer wear but I hold off for a few years on each item before I give them away because I think I might change my mind about them. Or I just hope one day I will fit into them again because I really like the article so I don't want to get rid of them just yet. I even have notebooks from highschool tucked away somewhere in the study thinking that one day I might like to go over my old notes, essays and ponder. LOL I know, I'm wierd. But acknowledgement is the first step and I am very aware of the problem. Laughing

Was he upset, an AH or maybe both? I guess starting over for you was exactly that!

I sometimes think that starting from scratch would be nice. For me it would mean buying just exactly what I want, not settling for anything less and if need be waiting until I could afford it.

Excellent quality bottles, vials & jars--I wash and sterilize them and store them away. It's starting to get ridiculous. I can't bring myself to the point of tossing them but they're taking up way too much space.

My bf thinks I am, but I think I'm not totally one b/c I do use what I save, and always try to remember to throw things away when I have time to go through them all. The problem is I don't have time. Rolling Eyes

I think i am, maybe because i attach sentimental value to pretty much everything i own, i.e. first date blouse, 8th shopping trip with best friend, first job interview suit, lipstick i wore for a great new year's eve party, etc, even though i know they should have been tossed a long time ago. I even keep skincare and makeup samples that didn't work for me. Time for a good spring cleaning.

Do you think this runs in families? I am a packrat (but cutting down on my stash since I am moving to a smaller house). My sister is a packrat and so is my Mom. How about all of you? Are you the lone packrat in your family?

There should be a pack mouse club. Think

I'm good at throwing stuff away but I have a husband who keeps everything.
