Hi
I was reading that borage oil is shown to stimulate production of ceramides so I'm wondering if anyone has tried it.
It a damn pricey oil so it's going to have to work for its money.

I've been using borage oil in my facial oil blends for years - I also take borage oil supplements. |

Thanks Kim
What's the texture like compared to other carriers? Do you feel it delivers that ceramide promise? Would you use it just like a normal carrier oil or a smaller percentage?
Sorry - so many questions but it's £17 for a tiny pot here. |

I definitely would not use it as the main carrier oil. It's only recommended for use at 10% in blends. It also has a pretty short shelf-life, so don't buy more than you can use in about 6 months. You can refrigerate it & it will last a bit longer, but I still wouldn't buy it in large quantities.
I don't know about ceramides...I just know that borage oil has the highest concentration of GLA, which makes it great for mature skin. I use both the borage oil & evening primrose oil (also high in GLA) in all of my oil blends.
The texture is similar to jojoba oil. |

Thanks Catski - Good idea - I'll try some capsules. I had no idea they were the same thing. |

Just to say I did buy the capsules (carefully screening for ugly fillers in the ingredients list) and again I'm surprised and delighted by the results I'm getting with it. I've been using most nights on top of my pomegranate oil. My skin just feels and looks so well nourished. I must have been missing some essential element which this supplies. Maybe the freshness of the supply is important.
Anyway, didn't want to bore you but that's another surprise RAVE for me I've got my mother on them too. |

Borage oil is derived from the seeds of the borage (Borago officinalis) plant, a large plant with blue, star-shaped flowers found throughout Europe and North Africa and naturalized to North America.
I hope this help !! |

So are you just popping a cap and using the oil from this straight, like one can do with vit E? And can you give more detail to nourished, is it plumper, softer, or is it just better? I realize sometimes its very hard to define. |

Good. It sounds like you're finding some lovely natural things and your skin is getting happy about it. (My skin always feels happy when I feed it with avocado and yoghurt, honey and papaya. I'm about to experiment with making Tamarind extract which is very hydrating - apparently.) |

Yes, just popping and using straight.
Skin seems - thicker, fuller with more elasticity & better internal moisturisation. Not glowy nor plump (in a watery way) nor tightening.
Thanks Catski - I'll take a look at the Tamarind sounds juicy. |

I did, but be careful to check the ingredients are just oil and the capsule shell - some have other additives.
Though it's great for me neat, I imagine it might be too rich for some skin types so you might want to dilute it as Kim suggests above. |

[b]Borage oil has worked wonderfully on psorisis. It is also great for facial skin care. Shikai has a dry skin cream made with borage oil. The facial wash is just great. i use it for a body wash too. I follow up with the 24 hour face cream, body lotion and hand cream. It has made a huge improvement. I passed the info on to my hairdresser. She was having a very bad allergic reation to the hair products she uses. It also appeared to be psorisis or dermatitis. She has also had a very quick clearing up. |
