Has anyone got a tip on how to get on track? I'm so sugar addicted right now and can't seem to stop myself buying chocolate and other treats in the evening (which is the worst time to eat junk food, anyway).
I'd like to get on track. |

Are you in a bad mood or under stress? Try to eat some fruits whenever you feel craving for sweet. And remember to spot the reason behind your problem. Hope it helps. |

good one! spot the reason behind your problem.. i think for most ppl its lack of discipline.. i know in my case it is. ive been yoyoing for years and the only thing that really keeps me in shape is bringing it to the front of my mind and just forcing myself to eat healthy and get as much exercise as i can
finding a workout buddy helps bigtime to motivate you and keep you active |

What is keeping me on track lately is my subscription to www.myfooddiary.com. Every day I log everything I eat so therefore feel accountable. I'm losing at a healthy rate and am not missing out on the foods I love. I could never give up sweets! I still need to exercise more though. |

Self discipline! It's the only way to keep on track. I too have put myself on a reduced carb diet (makes me bloat and been having unpleasant reactions to them lately) so I can fit into my summer wardrobe after putting on a little too much extra weight this winter. (I'm from an Italian family so I grew up on pasta, bread and lots of carbs so this has been really tough.) I too have cravings for chocolate (and bread) but I try to limit this. I take stock of what I've eaten that day or the day before and if I haven't had any other sugars, starches or fats, I'll allow myself a little treat. Depriving yourself is just going to make you crave it more. I also make sure to drink 1 - 2 litres of water during the day so I don't feel hungry. I started this up just over a week and a half ago and must say it's going well. I'm eating lots of vegetables, eggs, chicken and fish and have already noticed some wight loss. I also got back into yoga on a regular basis last month, so I have a fitness routine that I actually enjoy taking part in to help me with my goal. I figure a couple of months of this is all I need (I don't need to lose much) and by then I will have developed good habits which will be easier for me to maintain throughout the summer when I have my vegetable garden. I'll be eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies then for sure! |

Sigh and self discipline is what I so lack. All my exercise plans go down the drain after like a week at max I should really go sign up for some fitness plan - least having to pay for it will make me go and exercise haha. |

maybe you can try not to stock chocolate at home. get it out of your sight, or promise yourself to go for a walk before buying chocolate. even if you really want to buy some treats, just buy small portion. |

I agree...the first step is you MUST NOT BUY it!!!
If it's not in your home, you can't eat it!
I cut out dessert, candy, and junk like that for my NY's resolution and for the first week or so it was super hard...cravings, the feeling that "I MUST have it!" but it goes away.
I had a little victory last night...we went out with friends and one of them, who ALWAYS orders dessert (and when we eat at her house she always makes dessert) ordered a HUGE piece of blueberry pie and was offering everyone some. I never even batted an eye (when before I would be craving it!) as I politely turned her down.
You wouldn't keep alcohol stocked in a house that has an alcoholic who wants to get better, would you?
You need to find the courage to keep on wheelin' that grocery cart right by the sweets aisle. Don't even go DOWN it if you don't need anything.
This seriously helped me. It's totally attainable...like many have said, it will take self-discipline and will power...then it will get easier...I promise! |

have you tried sugar free chocolate? I'm not sure if that has less calories. Another thing you can do is to buy Dove Chocolate ice cream bits, it's smaller than a chocolate bar but has enough chocolate in it. Oh...and it only has 60 calories. I mean that is if you only eat one. |

As a life time fat fighter , I still suggest buying regular ones. cuz I tend to eat a lot more when I think it's not fat, and result in fatter than ever! |

I think for some...me included...cold turkey is the best and only way.
I tried to "cut back" and it never ended up working. For people with better self-discipline, it might work.
For me I had to give it up entirely...now I can have a small piece of chocolate and be fine. I don't binge anymore.
But I couldn't have gotten to this point if I hadn't cut it out altogether... |

My advice is: figure out the pattern of your sugar cravings and deal with it from there. I've battled sugar/binge tendencies for over 30 years, and have finally recognized a few patterns of my own. The cravings may still overtake me at times, but at least I know why now.
Activity and Distraction
If your sugar cravings strike right after dinner, have a hot drink with a piece of chocolate (or one of those KitKat singles, etc.) and then MOVE ON. Get up and go to the gym, the library or walk your dog if you have one. Clean out a closet, sort your personal papers or have a go at the junk under the bathroom sink.
Loneliness, Boredom, Unhappy, Feeling Trapped - Human Contact
If your cravings strike when you're feeling any of the above, you could benefit from human contact. Go somewhere where there are other people (I often go to the library, 'cause it's open in the evening and gives me a place to be without having to buy something). If you can't get out of the house, call a friend, a sister or your Mom -- it will give you a different outlook.
Migraine/Exhaustion - Rest!
I often know when a migraine is about to come on, because my cravings for chocolate are extremely pronounced and come out of nowhere. Eating chocolate at a time like that makes me feel better for a short while (serotonin levels?), but I still have to take my medication and sleep anyway, so why do I bother? When I'm sleep-deprived (and I usually am), I crave sweets/gooey carbs. Figured out I'm trying to energize and wake myself up with food.
Forgive me for blithering on like this. I only meant to say that it's important to figure out why you're having the need for sugar. Your issues might be different, but some reflection may give you insight into your situation. Hope this helps you. |

This is just the kick in the pants I needed to get me going today. Discipline is extremely important. It's up to me to bite the bullet, toss the junk food and stop buying it.
It's a lovely sunny day and I plan to spend it walking briskly and climbing hills (there are lots of steep ones where I live). |

Try to eat dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Another suggestion is to eat in small portions 3-4 times a day (this way you will not feel hungry)you can eat a little piece of chocolate each time you have a meal, but it has to be during a day. No food after 8 p.m. I know, it is difficult, but when you get use to this regime you will find that you don't crave for sweets as much as before. |

Consider joining/going to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting if you're wanting to get a better handle on things and you're having difficulty doing it on your own. For me, overeating and binging on sweets is an * spam alert *. I don't know if it's psychological, phsiological or combination of both. OA is like the program AA for alcoholics but it addresses overeating and eating disorders. Some people that belong are obese, some look completely average and some are thin. Some members have major issues with food, some have minor. I like that you can go to a meeting every day if you need to -- it can really help to have that support from other people who go through the same things/feelings as you. |

well, this isn't so good if you have a tendency to overeat in general, but if sugar is your main battle, here's what I do:
go out of my way to have lots of nonsugar, protein or fiber based treats around -- like a special cheese, smoked salmon, exotic fruit -- anything that I really really look forward to eating. I don't miss sugar when I have so many treats around. It gets expensive, but an extra $30 a week so you turn to buffalo mozzarella and basil rather than boring old ice cream is worth it.
also, if the craving just can't be denied, look for desserts with some nutritional value and either unprocessed sugars or a place to substitute in splenda. For example, I will make myself a flan using pineapple for most of the sweetness, and nonfat evaporated milk (just tweak recipes) -- then it's a dessert, but it's full of protein so it's filling and nutritious and has a limited amount of processed sugars. Or make some sugar free chocolate pudding with nonfat milk, and again, you at least get some protein. Freeze it and it's reaalllllly good.
also, sucking on hard candies work wonders in distrcting you temporarily until you can get your mind off the idea that you just have to have whatever litle thing you think you need. |

Right before bed is when I crave chocolate.
I heat some 2% milk and add stevia, powdered cocoa, and just a little sugar and vanilla.
If I drink enough of this, I can keep from going out and buying Oreos at 3am! |

to keep fit and lose weight. I eat cereal without sugar and milk, just with hot water, in the morning every day. It helps me to have detoxitation because it is full of dietary fibre. Keep eating 70% full each meal and eat some light biscuit when you are hungry. |

Pick a day and just start. Drink a ton of water and try to eat low carb and take a long walk. A couple of low carb days, work wonders for the hunger pains! |

when i find myself plagued with bad eating habits and craving toxic foods (i.e. carbs, greasey foods and sweets), I go on a juice fast for a few days to cleanse my system. Once off of the fast, I only eat fresh veggies and fruits for the first few days. This kicks those cravings in the butt; not to mention your body only wants those nutrional foods once the fast is complete!
It's amazing - after a good cleanse, everything tastes better! Even salads taste like thanksgiving feasts!
My favorite is the Master Cleanse. Look it up online, and you'll find tons of information! |

Detox for two weeks. No quick release carbs: fruits, breads, pastas, white flour or sugar.
When I learned I was a diabetic I did this. This type of diet in addition to the FEAR really knocked the weight off fast. |

I used to be the BIGGEST sugar junkie(I would eat lollies for lunch) then I kicked the sugar fix for caffeine(5+ coffees a day) which was just as bad. Lately something has changed in me, I've been able to totally kick coffee and sugar!! I don't know why?? I'm also about to hire a treadmill so hopefully I'll drop a few kilos. |
