I have tried searching for posts on PSF sunscreen, but didn't find any, so hopefully this hasn't been discussed much previously.
I am still searching for my HG sunscreen, I'm using Sofina Nuance Up at the moment, but I'm not convinced that it's the best one for my skin. I would like to try a more natural sunscreen, something like PSF. Has anyone tried it? Based on the ingredients below it sound like a good product, but I'd like to get some feedback before I buy it. Thanks!

I tried the PSF Herbal sunscreen and it left me shiny shiny SHINY!!!
Since my skin does that on its own, I didn't need a sunscreen thinking it had to fulfill the same role |

Hi Paris,
I use Jan Marini, and I LOVE IT. It goes on very easy, and spreads well. It's very very silky on the skin and it penetrates immediately.
It smells really nice too. |

I've been using Sofina Nuance Up...but as I'm about to run out, I've switched back to my Solbar (which has broad spectrum protection, unlike Sofina )
Solbar is cheap (like 15 USD!) and doesn't make me shiny. I never thought I'd give up my Sofina, but I really want that protection (I think it lacks adequate UVA protection...someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I figured I should switch to something with more protection now that summer is rolling around (esp. here in the desert) and once I start going out on surveys, I'll need something that will protect well...Sofina just doesn't cut it in that regard. Sad...because I love the texture and mattifying qualities of Sofina! |

Paris as to whether the Sofina offers adequate UVA protection....I suppose that would depend on your definition of adequate.
The active ingredients in this are zinc oxide and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate. Zinc oxide is a broad spectrum filter that does offer good UVA protection. While I don't know the percentages for the active ingredients in the Sofina sunscreen we do know that it has a PA rating of PA+++. This corresponds to a PPD or 8 or more. That is pretty good IMO for a non-Euro sunscreen. In fact it is pretty hard to find a non-Euro sunscreen with a PPD higher than 8. I have no clue what the PPD of your Solbar is so I can't really make a comparison. Personally I don't have a problem with a PPD of 8 although I still do use another sunscreeen for days when I will be in the sun for long periods of time. My other sunscreen is the Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream with a SPF of 55 and a PA+++ rating. It still has the same active ingredients as the Sofina but I have a feeling that the percentage of zinc oxide is higher in the Shiseido and I feel that the formula would stand up better to perspiration. Yet for day to day use the Sofina's are IMO hard to beat. |

I don't know about the PPD rating...it's a US sunscreen, it has an SPF of 38. When I start work outside (I'm an archaeologist) during the summer I'm probably going to go up to an SPF 45.
I have Blue Lizard suncream for my body...love that stuff. I need to find a good high level facial one now. I don't care about shine...I'll be in 115 degree heat in the desert without shade. I DO NOT want it to break me out though!
Julsey, if you are not oily, PSF might work for you. It's cheap enough that you aren't out a lot of money if it doesn't work. |

What ingredients in the PSF sunscreen are the active ones? It doesn't seem to have any of the usual suspects. My concern is that I use both AHAs and retinaldehyde and need good quality sunscreen to avoid sun damage. I have liked some of the PSF products that I've tried, but I don't want to play sun-damage-roulette with my skin. |

i've been looking into the organic pharmacy's sunscreen. it's 100% physical spf, using zinc oxide, and seems to have good ingredients (no silicones, chemicals, etc.) . . . |

Hi Julsey!
Just wanted to let you know that PSF doesn't make/carry this sunscreen anymore but will be making a new one! Woo Hoo!!! About the original ~ I personally didn't "love" it but found it adequate. My biggest problem was that it left me feeling abit shiny and I am oily to begin with. I did write PSF when I saw they weren't selling it anymore and they told me that they are coming out with a "new and improved" oil-free sunscreen that is hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic and doesn't give off the shine or feel of most sunscreens so I am excited to try this when they start to sell it. I did forget to ask the SPF though..I wonder what it will be? Does anyone else know???

I used PSF SPF 30 in the summer and it made my skin oily. My skin did break out, but I use PSF when the weather is not as humid and hot with a good result. |

Paris,
Oh, I could talk to you about it for hours. When I go to Greece, I reverently sit among the ruins & just feel the old stones in the amphitheatres and close my eyes & I'm actually transported back in time ..and I'm quickly brought back to earth by my 2 girls & DH yelling "You're going gaga over a bunch of rocks!! They're just rocks!" They just don't get it! |

Thanks doodlebug for the info about PSF sunscreen. I have very dry skin and the old stuff left even me oily and shiny. Makeup over it was a real problem. At the moment I am using La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 and find it a bit oily but better than the old PSF. I generally love PSF products and am looking forward to trying the new version of the sunscreen. |

I asked this question earlier (or later, impossible to tell, when topics get moved around), but I wanted to know if La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60 really has moisturizer in it. Perhaps you, dokusan, can tell me? You say it makes you "oily". How oily, is it bothersome in the sun? Do you drip grease or is it bearable? I would really appreciate hearing about this. Thanks so much for any response. |

I agree with you there, I find the La Roche Possay SPF 60 better than the PSF in terms of greasiness... though for La Roche Possay sunscreens, nothing beats the SPF 40 Fluide Extreme for me. |

The new improved PSF sunscreen is due out this month. I'm going away soon so have ordered one of the 'old' bottles from EDS, they only had SPF15. I will try it on my face but if it doesn't work out, I will use it on my body. |

Thanks for all the replies! I had also emailed PSF about this and they said that based on feedback from those who tried it during the trials, it didn't cause any greasiness or breakouts. It isn't out yet, but once it is released I'll probably give it a go! |

I always wanted to be an archeologist too but suspect I would complain of heat Good on your Paristroika.
Just a quick report from Thailand to say the PSF sunscreen ('old' bought from EDS stocks) is fantastic so I have high hopes for the new improved version. No blocked pores on my face and I'm also using it on my body and it works well. Great size bottle too. |
