I have a gel like serum which will lead to balling up of my moisturizer - is there anything to prevent this? Or can I simply not combine them?
Thanks |

This has happened to me before and I just refuse to layer product because of this very problem. The solution would be to use your serum alone. Thats the only thing you can do, short of returning it to where you purchased the product. |

I've had this happen when I put too much on, or haven't let it sink in long enough before adding another layer. Not sure if you've tried either of those ... those are my only two suggestions. Hope someone else can help you out with other suggestions. |

Monica, I'd try applying as little of the serum as possible to make it really thin, and then wait till it absorbs well (5 mins), and then spread on your moisturizer also very thinly. If you're careful, it should solve your problem. I have this problem, too, sometimes, with my SS, but if I remember to spread it out thinly, it would be ok. Also try not to layer too many products when you know one of them will ball up. |

Thanks everyone - I will try to put it on thinner and wait longer inbetween. I think its the thickener in the serum (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose). |

I hate this prob, and sometimes, not always tho, if I exfolliate, the problems solved, other times its the product and I return it or throw it out. |

When I notice the balling effect when I try to layer products, I sometimes have luck avoiding it by gently patting on the products, not rubbing. Just pat, pat, pat and then leave it alone until it dries and seems absorbed. Then, pat, pat, pat the next layer and so on. |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the product, so don't return it or throw it away. Just let it dry on your face, then spritz/mist with distilled water or floral water or a hydrosol. Then apply your second product.
Alternatively, you can apply your second product first, then spritz and work it in.
The spritz facilitates product absorption and stops the balling issue. |

Hi
I agree to try exfoliating, if you do not do so regularly, as sometimes the dead skin cell layer on the top prevents a nice penetration of the products.
You could also try and apply your serum while your face is still a bit damp from washing. Sometimes slightly damp skin allows for an easier application of product allowing one to use less product. Some products are difficult to apply in a thin even layer. The thicker the layers of products, the more likely that there will be some balling up.
Good luck!

very true on the slightly damp, I never ever put anything on dry skin, even body lotion! I forget to add that when I make suggestions, I sadly assume all do as I do, damp face a must! |

Ha! This is a handy little thread as I'm having this same issue happen to me right now with a new serum I'm test driving. I know it's the serum causing the balling up of my moisturizer after it and it is frustrating. I do find that misting between products does help alleviate this. Also, patting as opposed to rubbing in the next product does help as well. This is the first time I've experienced this - I got suckered into an Arbonne party (I know, I know.... ) and bought a few things to help a friend of my sister's who was getting starting in the Arbonne rep biz....The products aren't too bad, but I'm only a week in, so if I look twenty years younger when they're gone, then I guess it was money well spent!

I just applied all the advice given and its working pretty well I applied the serum thinly to damp skin, waited a few minutes, remisted my skin and then applied my moisturizer without too much rubbing.
Thanks again to all of you |
