Hi there,
I've always been using fingers to apply my liquid foundation but I'm wondering if it's better to use a brush or sponge?
Is there a difference?

| I use a tinted moisturiser but I much prefer to apply it with a brush - it gives a much better finish. I use a synthetic foundation brush made by Benefit - the bristles don't fall out. |

| I use a brush from mac as I find it gives me a more even coverage. I'm not too keen on using a sponge, as I find that it soaks up quite a bit of my foundation and I end up wasting it. |

The Beauty Blender sponge is excellent for apply liquid foundation. Its expensive but its really worth it, it really different then your standard sponges. It just give a much nicer finish.
I've read alot of people like a similar one by Sonia Kusak for about 1/2 the price. |

| Definitely brush. I use a kabuki brush to spread the MAC studio fix liquid. It give very even coverage and is more sanitary than fingers! Using fingers you may accidently rub it into the pores giving clog pores |

I read a post on another thread about someone using a MAC 187 brush( I think) to apply foundation...either wet or minerals. The claim was that is gave an air brush look and was especially flattering for mature skin. I pulled out a brush that looked similar and went with it. I was shocked at the difference it made. I will never go back to application with my fingers.

Ah Toby...you read my mind! This is exactly what I was going to say! Any skunk/stipple brush would work I think. The key is to dot the foundation over the whole face and then buff it in so that it blends seamlessly with the skin. And you're right: It makes such a big difference! |

| I read replies about the stippling brush - I have one that's similar to MAC's, but it's from Sonia Kashuk - It's a flat-topped cream/powder blush brush, but I use it as my applicator for cream/stick foundations. I found that by just using a sponge or my fingers for this kind of foundation, I was getting really heavy, fake-looking coverage. With the Sonia Kashuk brush ($14.99 at Target stores) I get a really soft, airbrushed finish - I haven't tried this brush with anything except for creams, but it works beautifully. I would imagine it's also cheaper than any brush MAC sells, and it's really quite pretty looking as well. The only qualm I have with it is that it's got to be washed about every day - otherwise it just gets super gross and germy! |

| I add a little bit of water to the foundation so I can spread it out easily with my fingers, that way it doesn't look cakey. This was in the old days with brands such as almay, clinique, maybelline, etc, Now i don't use any. (just my personal preference) |

| it is easy to get the nude skin look with fundation brush, very thin and nude looking. finger is fine ,but not easy to control |

| I like to use a sponge for more even, streakless coverage, but, yes, it does soak up a lot of product. I haven't tried a brush yet. |

I use MAC 187 brush (which is around $50...yeah I know it is very expensive for a brush). It is acutally very good and it gives you an airbrushed look. I also use Lise Watier foundation brush. It is very nice and soft and I enjoy using that one too. I also use the good old fingers application of foundation.
IMO and surprisingly enough, using MAC 187 gives you less waste, and smooth, but less coverage. Using fingers gives you more coverage and at the same time, it warms up the foundation. It gives you less waste as well. |

| Most of the time I use Mac brushes which give an even finish look with less effort, but I still use my fingers to apply liquid foundation sometimes. IMO sponge is good too if you don't mind some waste of the foundation. |

| i think brush works better. but it takes time to well blend the foundation onto skin. another problem is to keep washing foundation brush~~ In comparison with hand blending, you just need to wash hands after use. I'm kinda lazy girl~~ In a word, If i'm in a hurry to finish make-up, hand blending. otherwise brush blending for better even result. |

| As long as we are comfortable to use any of fingers, sponge or brush, it is not necessary to change the way we do things. It is no right or wrong. I use finger. |

Funny, I was thinking about this on my ride home. I agree with previous poster use your fingers and it looks sloppier, sponge and you lose product.
I use tinted moisturizer, usually with fingers but I may have to pick up a beauty blender ot teh 187 soon. If I'm going to wear make up I want it to look good! |
