I use a highlighter most days ... I love how it makes me look "glowy" without looking oily. My favourite recently though is very shimmery .. it's the Clinique Shimmering Tones Bare Bronze ... perfect for my NW15 skin. I also really like Guerlain Meteorites for winter, but alas, also shimmery. I think the least shimmery ... just a nice glow ... was Prescriptives Illuminating Potion. I have a sample size of that and like it alot, and I don't remember it being very glittery. Sorry, I don't know of any MMU highlighting powders.
Now as for application, usually I brush it from up above the outer edge of my eyebrows and around to over top of the upper cheekbones. I also brush a little down the top of my nose (this probably draws attention to the nose, but I like the look) and then a little on the "cupids bow". You could also put some under your eyebrows as an eye highligher or sometimes it looks nice just to dab a little in the inner corner of your eye to brighten the eyes up. One thing I need to be careful of though is to make sure I don't put it too close (on my cheekbones) to my nose where I have some larger pores ... totally draws attention to them!

Moonstarr already has given some excellent tips already on highlighting.
But in regards to the highlighter itself - wouldn't it be better if it is a little bit shimmery? Otherwise it would just look like a white patch on you skin?
I am lazy and I often just use an eyeshadow. But a really subtle highlighter is Laura Mercier's Brightening Powder, because I dust just a little bit on, so the shimmer is very very very subtle. And yes, the triple use of "very" is necessary. |

Yes, thanks Moonstarr. It's the top of the cheekbones bit that I havent done before..I need to experiment with it. I've been looking at photographs in mags and noticing the paleness under the eye area extending downward to the cheekbone.. somehow this has passed me by before.
Cuppre, maybe you're right, it needs to be light reflective. If it was matte it would look weird, maybe.
Thankyou for your responses. I have various highlighters I use under eyebrow, and neutral pencils for corner of eyes.
I've never tried the Brightening Powder. It seems to be well respected here so I must go look at it. I feel a shopping trip coming on.. |

I just bought the LM Secret Brightening Powder so will let you all know how it works for me. I also ordered some LM MMU because the finish is so pretty, I just HAD to try it out.
I do the same as Moonstar for the inner eye and just under the brows. For my nose, I run a highlighter down the length of it and then use a contour along the sides and just under the tip - then, blend really well. It helps minimize my nose, which I'm still kicking around the idea of getting PS but can't quite make up my mind. I use darker colors (still natural) on my forehead and chin to shorten my face and also highlighter under my eye and on the top of my chin as you mentioned. Of course, all of this depends on how much effort I want to put in so often I use some but not all of the techniques. |

I like to use highlighter, i normally use it in a V shape from under my eyebrows out to my temples and then down the cheekbone. This always helps me look more youthful, awake and dewy.
As for what product to use. I sometimes use benefit highbeam, i like the pinky shade but sometimes it can look a bit glittery. I also have a highlighter powder which i bought from the barbara daly range from tesco. I have recently ordered the prescriptives magic cream, the one that comes in a palette with a sponge. So i will see what that is like and report back. |

I'm wondering for those that use eyeshadow as highlighter for your face, do u get blocked pores from using them? I'm always afraid to try since it's targeted to use for the eyelid area.
Also, it seems the highlighter that is mentioned here is in powder form. Did anyone try some in cream form? If so, do u apply with a brush or fingers? I found that the cream highlighter just sits on my face like a white/ pinkish shimmering patch under the sunlight and it doesn't look natural Is it just me? |
