Cysts throughout my abdomen - anyone else?

The doc just called to say I have cysts in my uterus, ovaries, liver and pancreas.

Some people just develop cysts, he says. Could be nothing. But he also said pancreatic cysts are very rare.

Has anyone else had this?

I've had many, many ovarian cysts in the past before they finally removed my cystic right ovary in a hysterectomy. Some were painful, many unnoticed. My doc said cysts are very normal and most women have them during their cycles but do not notice them unless they become painful or large. I also get cysts in my breasts which always raise the cancer scare until they subside or are deflated by needle. Cysts are generally harmless unles they become inflamed or abnormal. I've not heard much of pancreatic cysts but I'll bet your doc is going to order an ultrasound and several tests to rule out abnormalities. Keep us posted and good luck.

I have heard of people having pancreatic cysts, but it is unusual.

You should really talk to your physician, and do whatever additional tests he prescribes.

I also have had cysts on my ovaries. I was told that every woman makes a pouch during the ovulation process. Some of mine have been painful as well and some I never noticed.

I have some small cysts that are in the abdomen area but feel like they are just under the skin. If I lay on my back you can see the skin is slightly raised and feel a hard bump. The doctor says as long as they don't more or change, they are harmless. Makes me wonder though if I am getting them in other places I can't see. How can your doctor tell if you have them in your ovaries, uterus, etc? What test do they do?

I'm cystic, too and had both ovaries removed several months ago because they were filled with cysts. Tests also revealed cysts on one kidney. Have also had breast cysts removed in the past. Until they are removed and tested, it's very difficult to not worry.

My ovarian cysts were discovered by accident. I had 2 CAT scans of my kidneys because of a high urine blood count and my ovaries just happened to be visible in the scan. They were removed within several days of the scan. Then an MRI was performed on my kidneys where cysts were confirmed. I think the MRI shows alot more detail than a CAT scan.

I've had cysts on my ovaries,and also in the joint of my shoulder.The specialist said it was not unusual and not to worry. So I guess they can form anywhere.

I had a huge cyst on my right ovary that had to be surgically removed. If they get big, than they have to removed.

Mine were found by an ultrasound that had to be done.

Wow...lots of people with cysts... Thanks all for your input and well wishes. I think my mom has them in her breasts, so I guess they're hereditary.

The cysts were found via a CT scan of my abdomen/pelvis. I've been having symptoms of IBS and the CT was a step in the process of eliminating which diseases I don't have before the doc officially diagnoses me.

I had to fast, starting four hours before the test, and then drink a barium shake. Yuck! It's bad... Then they ask you if you'd like to have dye injected in your arm to enhance the accuracy of the test. It's no big deal but the side effects include warmth and dryness of the mouth like you had a shot of whiskey, and feeling like you're peeing on the floor. Weird! The CT scanner is basically a big circular type thing you lay down in while it makes noises.

He said we'll schedule an endoscopy next to see if the pancreatic cysts are cancerous. As for the ovarian/uterine ones, I must go to my OB/GYN. He didn't seem worried about the liver cysts at all.

Why were your ovaries removed and why so urgently? You said they were filled with cysts -but can that pose of problem to your ovaries or were they painful?

I had to have a CT and MRI a couple years ago for another reason, so I guess if I had internal cysts they would have shown up then. Thanks for explaining that to me. Best of luck regarding the pancreatic cysts. Try not to worry and we'll all be thinking of you.

my mother had cysts in her uterus 5 years age.
she had cutted the uterus, because the systs is little big, if it's small, maybe must not to be cutted, the doc said that.

Me too, ovarian cysts for years. I'd go for my OB-GYN exam and every couple of years, a big one would show up on an ovary. I'd go back for reevaluation a few months later and it would be gone again. Finally, a big one started growing in the wall of my uterus and wouldn't quit. It caused me a lot of problems so I opted for a hysterectomy. Thrilled not to have periods any more after suffering the tortures of hell every month for 20 yrs! And yes, I'm still getting the ones on my ovaries.

I am sitting here at the moment with a cut in my stomach from a laparoscophy i had on thursday. I was told that i had a cyst on my right hand fallopian tube and on the other side i had a lump made up of fatty cells. Funny thing was the cyst wasn't there last july when i had another laparoscopy and had lesions growing all over my bowel. so it has grown in that time. I now have to go back to see me gynea next tuesday to see what he wants to do, he was supposed to do the operation on thursday but wasn't there (i wasn't too happy)
I will be angry if he says it has to be removed and i have to go back in for a operation.
I am fed up with getting pain all time, i don't have a life as i have to stay in all the time with a hot water bottle.
Oh forgot to say i'm 19

My first cyst was found at 20, still have them on the one remaining ovary. It is so normal to have them, but most are shed with your period. When they finally did my hysterectomy at 40, I was relieved to be done with them, but wish in some ways they had taken the other ovary so I could be done as it will swell up from time to time. Most are found by ultrasound, vaginal ultrasound and MRI. They do seem to be hereditary.

TooInvolved - The surgeon was only going to remove 1 ovary, but when she got in there they were both plagued with cysts. Since I had turned 51 and was in the early stages of menopause, I agreed with the surgeon to remove them. The tests for ovarian cancer aren't very good - and often when symptoms do appear it's too late. Just one less thing I have to worry about.

I've had ovarian cysts for years I'll go in for an ultrasound and by the time they send me for a follow up test it's usually gone. I am concerned about ovarian cancer as I had a hysterectomy years ago and that is such a silent disease.

Rufus - because ovarian cancer is a silent disease, that's the main reason I opted to have both ovaries removed. I always think of Gilda Radner who died from ovarian cancer. By the time she was diagnosed it had spread to her liver. What a tremendous loss her death was.
