...and has taken it's broken motherboard to Dell for a fortnight's holiday.
So I probably won't be back for a fortnight either.
Will be missing you all and don't know how I'll manage without your help and advice.
I hate computers, I've decided. Blummin' things. |

Awww...It's amazing how we have all gotten so used to our new found technology. It's so difficult to imagine a day without going on the internet...and my cellphone? I can't leave home without it. There used to be a day that I was able to not have any need to go on the internet and wouldn't worry about having a phone with me while I was out. |

I'm sort of back - but using an old, rickety laptop that is sooooooooo slooooooooow. Still, it's a heck of a lot better than nothing!
Anyone else with PC probs - I feel your pain! |

I feel your pain! My BRAND NEW laptop that I'd had 3 pesky weeks decided to start switching itself off! As I was in the US at the time I couldn't take it back within the 28 day guarantee period, so ending up taking it back 2 days after that only to be told that EVERYTHING would have to be replaced! I ended up with a new chassis (ie case) and motherboard, the only thing that had been mine was the memory! |

That is why you always need more than one computer!
sarahb, what brand computer was that? I have som problems with one laptop that keeps shutting down on trains, airplanes etc. And they cannot find the problem and refuses to replace it...

It's the computer stores own make, doesn't have a brand on it, but when taking it back, some guy came in with his with exactly the same problem.
We actually have 3 computers, so we've always got a back up for the back up! |

My husband keeps telling me it isn't the computer but user error unless he has problems with the darn thing. I got a cheap Dell this Christmas and so far haven't had any problems. |

But worth it really 2 years ago I had my PC laptop for 2 years and every year I had to back up all my data and send it for reformating at least once God it was like uh oh not again! Then I got fed up and switched to a mac powerbook and it's been 2 virus-free absolutely no cork-up years so far. Really worth the higher cost I feel as I probably spent 1k and more on all the repairs on the PC last time so it's actually all the same |

My thoughts exactly
There's a real mis-conception that Macs are more expensive than PC's, but when you consider the price of a MacBook (13" screen) @ US$1,099 v's a Dell XPS (12" screen) @US $1,299 its a no brainer! |
