I tried googling this topic, but got back nothing useful. I bet the members of this forum have some great ideas!
I have a pair of black DKNY jeans that I really like, but I'm afraid to wash them again! I turn them inside out, and wash them in cold water on gentle cycle. Then I hang them to dry. I suspect that any old laundry detergent won't do. Is there some product or home remedy that I can use to preserve the color?
Thanks! |

I add salt to my water and it helps. I have no idea where I ever read to do it but have always and it works for me.

I have never tried it myself, but I have heard that if you put some white vinegar in the wash in will "set" the color so that it doesn't fade. |

I remember seeing a commercial on tv (I'm in Canada) for a laundry soap that as meant for dark colours and apparently it was supposed to stop fading. I can't for the life of me remember what brand it was now. |

I think the detergent you are talking about is called Zero, we also have one here called woolite that supposedly stops fading. |

I'm in the states, and use Woolite Dark Laundry detergent for all my dark laundry. No more fading!
Just like everyone else, wash inside out, cold & hang dry.
I've used this method with my black J-brand jeans, which I bought a year ago. I wore these while shopping recently, compared them to new J-brands, and the difference is minimal...can't believe it! |

Wash them inside out in a pillow case and use non bio or woolite and do not hang them in bright light or sun |

You might try Ecover Delicate laundry detergent. I use this for all my gentles etc including lingerie and have been very satisfied with it. I've been told that Woolite, despite being marketed for all of your delicates, is actually not good for delicates especially lingerie. It deteriorates lycra etc. I also use Ecover reg detergent for all of the rest of my laundry.
The other alternative, unfortunately, is to have them dry cleaned. But try the other suggestions here first. |

I wash my jeans inside out in the gentle cycle in cold water, and I use Method Baby Detergent, actually. It works great (and smells really awesome) and it's very gentle so no fading. HTH! |

Oh, thank you for all the great suggestions! Your posts are sooo much more useful than the results returned from Google! |
