SO. Being on Mat leave sucks because here in Canada, you only get 55% of your salary to a MAX of $413 biweekly (I *think* this is it).
Anyway, being that I am collecting the limit, which isn't even half of my regular biweekly pay cheque, money is gettin' a little tight. I'm so not used to scaling back so drastically.
I figure I need a part time job, but need on that has flexible hours.
Any ideas that won't take me away from my baby for too long? I'm thinking retail, but its been years since I've done it, and frankly, I don't know if I even want to. Actually...maybe it won't be that bad with discount?!
So, do you guys have any other ideas? Any work from home experiences? |

What about opening a dayhome for kids? If you like having alot of kids running around that is. That way you can have your baby there with you and "babysit" other kids during the day for a profit. People are always looking for good day homes for kids. |

There are some small business owners that need someone to answer their phones, but can't quite afford to pay a f/t receptionist $15.00 per hour to sit in their office.
They train you, forward the business line to you, and you'd earn approx. $7-12. hour, without having to leave home.
If you were in the U.S. I'd hire you myself, right now!
Some more ideas:
1. Design websites. It's easy to market your services, just post ads on craigslist, or design a mock-up site for local businesses and/or bands that don't appear to have one. You can get lots of free software and many websites are actually done with templates. A clever person who can edit photos and write copy could do well with this
2. Sell things on ebay and/or craigslist. If you've got a digital camera that can take clear close-up shots, you can easily cruise yardsales and thrift shops, purchasing items (designer label items work well, old jewelry, silver spoons, etc. Avoid heavy items as the postage costs put off the buyers) that you can put up for sale. A friend's father made over $100,000 last year selling old spoons and ads cut from old National Geographic magazines.
3. Letter writing/document preparation proofreading services. It's really amazing how few people nowadays can write coherently. I put myself through college by writing and editing papers for students. Somehow, I ended up with manuscripts from authors, which led to me ghostwriting books and magazine articles. I had some attorneys whose secretaries were on leave and they had a receptionist, just no one to prepare their documents and catch their glaring errors
4. Look at your unique talents and abilities. What have you always enjoyed doing? What do others rave and say you're the best at?
Best of luck!

P.S. Please feel free to pm me if you like. I didn't want to go on and on and make a huge post! |

I'm in the same boat. I'm 8 months into my maternity leave, and also only getting less than half my pay. Fortunately my DH is working so we are able to make by. Unfortunately, with all my free time I discovered EDS and the credit card isn't get paid off too quickly these days. But you could babysit or if you have the space, maybe rent a room and charge room and board? |
