A coworker of mine grew up in Chicago and raves about Garrett popcorn, to the point that he orders it and has it delivered to him in TX after all these years. Is it really that good? I wanted some other opinions before I decide to mail-order popcorn.

My dad used to bring it home from work when I was little, but it was always a tiny little bag because it's so f-ing expensive. I think it's kind of overrated, it is just popcorn, but you should still try it....I remember liking the cashew caramel the best. |

I tried this popcorn again yesterday. I had to Photoshop a picture of Spiderman in with two people who are getting married this weekend....for work! So I went there afterward. =) I got a small bag of macadamia caramel; it was $5 and it was somewhat stale, which I didn't realize until I got home. It was ok, it's not life changing and I think it'd be messy, but easy, to make at home. |

To me it is "pretty" good - there's lots of whatever kind you choose coating the popcorn. IMHO, It's more popular b/c it's a Chicago instituion. |

The guys behind me ordered $50 worth.
The only Chicago institution I agree with is Giordano's....they overnight too! My parents sent it to me and my friends while I was away at school. |

To each his own
I grew up in Cincinnati, so I'd pay anything (not really ) for Skyline chili (which people from other areas of the country don't "get"), LaRosa's pizza (thin crust), and Graeters' ice cream (you can lick the fat off the roof of your mouth it's that rich). Every time we go back I go to each place with the kids |

That reminds me of Kernels Popcorn here in Canada. It's been ages since I've had some, but after reading this thread, I'm craving some! |

I'm familiar with Kernels! It is the smell that gets me every time..I'm a regular popcorn-aholic though, so microwave stuff makes me happy...When I smell the Kernels shop I go mad It has the same effect that the "Cinnabon" (sp?) shop has on me every time I walk past it in the local shopping mall....the smell of those massive cinnamon buns is just intoxicating - yummola!...Mr. Puds has to practically DRAG me away from the place to stop me from buying one!

That's how it is with the popcorn! You can smell it blocks away and it's torture sometimes. The smell of it, plus what tsjmom said, is probably why people wait in lines 100 deep for it when it's 5° or 95° out. |

Yep! It's pretty darn good! But, I like it because it's fresh and hot (I love carmel corn). I don't think it would be as good fresh... |
