I've always prided myself on my glowing and flawless complexion. And now it's gone! Over the past 6 months my skin has turned bumpy in texture, dull, dry patches and I have acne and spots all over my chin only. The pimples last about a month and when they go away they leave a red or purplish scar regardless of whether or not I picked at them. I'm on the brink of madness. Ive been to spas for facials, tried many different products, consulted a holistic healer, did allergy testing, saw a doctor and even went to a dietician to see what could be causing this. To top it off Im 23 Rolling Eyes , so the acne is starting very late. Can someone offer any advice as to what this is, if it's common and how I can stop it? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks in advance.

My daughter is in her thirties and has had an awful time with cystic acne. The past several months her skin has looked better than it has in years. I happened to read a thread by hollywood. Nano Silver Cyclic sounded intriguing. My DD loves it and it is working wonders. Please go to the below link. Good luck.

lcd,
I had beautiful skin through my teens, and 20's. When I was about 35, we started building our dream house, lots of decisions, combined with being unable to sell the house we were in, led to a mega case of cystic acne. After a few rounds of antibiotics, which helped while I was on them, I moved on to a dermatologist who put me on Accutane (not safe if you are considering getting pregnant-I was way past that). It cleared the acne up- but I was left with some hyper and hypo-pigmentation. About 7-8 years later, it flared up again. Accutane helped as before. But now I'm working on clearing up pigment problems from both times. Try to get help with the acne as soon as you can- the scars are not fun!

I've always been suffering cystic breakouts, the same as you if i touch it or don't, always get scars and bruising. I have tried everything such as proactive, accutane, retin-a, nanocyclic, bcp and so forth, but nothing has helped. Until I started to use Jan Marini products and Jojoba oil, truly has helped my skin. I still have scars and I don't expect anything to make my skin flawless but these products have helped with the cystic breakouts. Once a while I'll have 1 or 2 very small pimple but I'm happy with that compared to the cystic ones. I wish you luck in finding the product that will help.

My skin used to be completely clear but during the past few years I've experienced bad cystic acne on my chin mainly. I've tried so many products to try and help the situation and recently began to use an aspirin mask on a regular basis which has helped to begin to fade some of the old marks on my chin and it seems to also have stopped any major new breakouts. Along with this I have been using Silken Pearl Pearl Paste which again appears to have helped stop any new breakouts. I'm planning on purchasing the Jan Marini Bioclear Lotion aswell, since the reviews looks really positive for this product.

I have successfully managed cystic acne for years. The best advice I can give anyone is to go to a dermatologist who can put you on an effective treatment plan. I use a topical antibiotic, Retin A and a oral antibiotic to keep it all under control. It is a little cumbersome sometimes to keep up such a structured routine, but it is totally worth it because I beautiful skin now and no one ever believes me when I tell them that I have cystic acne.

I would urge you to please consider the health risks in taking the Accutane, especially since you are still young. One of my good friends took accutane when she was in her twenties & is still experiencing serious health risks in her thirties that are attributable to her Accutane use.

Jan Marini bioglycolic line has worked wonders for me. EDS sells the line. Many people have also seen results using Pearl paste which can be ordered through Mary atwww.silkenpearl.com,or through Kim at ifeelprettyproducts.com.

You can also find more information regarding acne clearing products atwww.acne.org.

If you are breaking out mostly on the chin on a monthly basis, you may have hormonal acne and I would suggest looking into spironolactone which suppresses androgen production. I was having some minor chin acne and started 100 mg a day about a month ago. My oil has decreased and the breakouts have ceased. I'm very pleased and have had no side effects at all. There is a lot of information about spironolactone on acne.org. It's a diuretic that has been around a long time with a good safety record. Here's the link to the acne.org page:

http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Hormonal-treatments-Spironolactone-BCP-etc-f51.html

Also, don't overload your skin with products, because that may also be aggravating the condition by overdrying your skin. Try to limit the products and use non-drying ones.

I think the Nano Cyclic Silver is a good cleanser to try too. Also consider using BHAs to unclog the pores. I like Paula's Choice 2% liquid.

I can really emphathize with you, so I hope you find something that works.

My pharmacist (at the wonderful Kripps pharmacy in Vancouver) recommended zinc and tin sustained release capsules 3x a day and after only a wekk I am seeing my acne dry up. It was so enflamed and unsightly from stress and now its finally looking semi-normal. Zinc has a powerful effect on the skin. It's worth a try! Hope this helps.

Also...cut out coffee and drink tons of water. foods high in iodine might stimulate your acne so do a google search to find out if you are eating iodine rich foods (salty foods are full of iodine.)

Your situation sounds similar to mine. I have always had clear skin and then a year ago it just started breaking out in places I've NEVER broken out before. And since then (especially the past 3 months) the acne has only gotten worse no matter what I do. I've tried tons of different treatments. Sometimes it gets a little better, but then gets bad again.

What I have tried that didn't work or had limited effects:
-Paula's Choice 2% liquid BHA
-ISC Active Serum (along with Pro-heal, their cleanser, and Hydracool)
-Neutrogena Acne Kit
-Juice Beauty Blemish Serum
-Juice Beauty Apple Mask
-PSF Pumpkin Mask
-Aspirin Masks
-regular visits and extractions from an asethician
-benzoyl peroxide in various strengths
-2% salycidic acid
-EpidermxII, Chrysalyx
-Queen Helene mask

Next I am trying Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear. Crossing my fingers!

You've tried so many products Skim!
Just to add on to your post, i've also used the Queen Helene Mask
Juice Beauty Peel
Juice Beauty Blemish Healing Serum
Paula's Choice Liquid BHA
ISC Active Serum
Zenbiotics
Various Pumpkin Peels, Yonka Juvenil and that's all I can remember at the moment. All of the above didn't really help my cystic acne either.
