Hi everyone!
This is my first post, although I have been reading a quite a bit voer the last few months on and off. I have ya'll to thank for my Derma Wand (which I love btw) as well as my Ojon * spam alert *. Don't ya feel extra special now?
Which brings me to why I am posting...
I have been interested in making my own products for awhile now but have just been reticent to give it a try but finally mixed up some shea butter, vitamin e, tea tree, lavender and olive oils for a pre shampoo treatment that actually works fairly well. I have recently aquired some Watermelon seed, Coconut, Babassu, Brazil nut,Grapeseed, and Jojoba oils as well as a Chamomile hyrdosol with hopes of making a leave in spray on detangling conditioner to if not, replace my Ojon revitalizing mist at least to somewhat offset the expense of it so far being the only product to get the tangles out of my childrens hair.
The trouble is, I have no idea where to start mixing these items or even if I have the appropriate ingredients! From what I have read it seems that I should be able to mix these oils into the hydrosol and spray it on the hair...but I could be just off in left field...lol.
Any advice would be appreciated. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

absolutely no idea, but I love the name
actually I think if you mix oils with alcohol you can mix them in with hydrosols, but I'm sure one of the self formulators will be able to answer you better
PS Welcome as well ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I can't help you at all with the chemistry, but being a huge Ojion fan myself, I am going to keep following this thread to see what you come up with!!! ![wave](images/smiles/039.gif) |

Thanks for the welcome! Tried out my concoction today...
First off, I HATE the way the Hydrosol smells! I used Lavender to try and mask it but that didn't help so then when I was brewing some herbal tea I decided to try adding the tea into the mix which helped but eventually ended up adding some Lancome perfume (just because it was the only liquid one I had).
I plan to try again with distilled water and herbal tea and no fragrance, but just in case I do have some fragrance oils on order
I used a small glass dropper and an empty Ojon spray bottle and used the following oils in desending order to the amounts used (sorry I didn't measure per se but used the dropper):
Jojoba (apx 9 dropper-fulls)
Watermelon Seed (apx 6 dropper-fulls)
Babassu (apx 6 dropper-fulls)
Brazil Nut (apx 6 dropper-fulls)
Grapeseed (apx 3 dropper-fulls)
Camellia (apx 3 dropper-fulls)
Tee Tree (just a few drops)
Neem (just a few drops)
Now outside of the horrid smelling Chamomille Hydrosol the mixture was very nice on the hair. I had to shake it to mix the same way one does with the Ojon mist and it was just as, if not more effective in detangling my kids hair! They both turned up their noses at the smell though (they don't like the lavender smell either). I used some on the lower half of my own hair (bottom of chin to waist) where it is usually the driest and was very pleased with the result. Soft and full of shine!
I am not sure if my idea of using the herbal tea in distilled water for a base for my next batch is something that would be recommended, but I don't see anything in it that would be harmful and the tea does smell awesome. None of the oils have much scent except for the Brazil nut which smells very pleasant, like Brazil nuts and of course the Tee Tree and Neem which we know have scents off-putting to some but I used such small amounts that I don't see them taking over the scent next time around. I am considering the addition of Coconut oil and perhaps some Orange and Vanilla scent.
Any thoughts, critiques?
I have no real idea what I am doing here, just sorta guessing so any input from you gals (or guys) with experience would be appreciated ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I would definitely try adding a little coconut oil. It is very beneficial and has a nice scent. If you are planning on adding any essential oils for scent, I would suggest letting your kids take a whiff of the EO before adding to make sure it something they like! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

hi stepfordwife!
honestly, i use rose hydrosol as the base for my hair spritz, and it's divine mixed with just about anything... i understand the desire to use chamomile, but rose and rose geranium are just friendlier in the scent dept. and i second the coconut oil idea!

Still waiting on my rose water and coconut oil(see I really DO live out in "Stepford" have to order everything via catalogue or net!) Seriously, folks the lawn fetish here is something to behold
But, since this did do the same trick (almost ) for my kiddo's tangles as my beloved Ojon revitalizing mist and I DID just mix up some yummy EOs for a nice summertime fragrance I added some lemon, green tea, white tea, jasmine and vanilla eo's (just a few drops) the scent that turned my little ppls noses has magically turned into one they like I think it was the vanilla that turned the tide for them...since I think it now smells sorta like cotton candy
Not something I want to smell on my own hair, but at least it salvages the rest of this batch. I can't wait to get my new ingredients to try out a new potion utilizing some of ya'lls fabulous tips though! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |
